was very progressive for much of last year and stood out on form returning from 10 months off, taking advantage of a good opportunity on the one hand, but the manner of success was such that she does look to have improved again over the winter, hardly surprising in itself given her big, powerful physique; tracked pace, travelled well, led under pressure early in straight and stayed on strongly; 3 times a listed winner now, she remains capable of better and can be a force back in pattern company.

isn't in the same league as Abingdon but ran well back on firmer ground and proved her stamina for the trip; in rear, headway under pressure home turn, stayed on, took second well inside final 1f but could make no impression on winner.

proved a big success in bumpers, winning 3 times and a good fourth in the Grade 2 at Aintree 3 months ago, and ran a stormer thrown in at the deep end on this Flat debut, showing useful form and gaining black type straight away; in touch, headway over 2f out, kept on well, took third well inside final 1f; she'll be suited by 1¾m and is open to improvement even though she's run to a high level here.

In previous years this listed event hasn't been confined to fillies but that change hardly detracted from the quality and the short-priced favourite, Abingdon, ran out an impressive winner; Pure Art took them along at a fair pace.

ABINGDON (USA) was very progressive for much of last year and stood out on form returning from 10 months off, taking advantage of a good opportunity on the one hand, but the manner of success was such that she does look to have improved again over the winter, hardly surprising in itself given her big, powerful physique; tracked pace, travelled well, led under pressure early in straight and stayed on strongly; 3 times a listed winner now, she remains capable of better and can be a force back in pattern company.

LUCY THE PAINTER (IRE) isn't in the same league as Abingdon but ran well back on firmer ground and proved her stamina for the trip; in rear, headway under pressure home turn, stayed on, took second well inside final 1f but could make no impression on winner.

SHEARLING proved a big success in bumpers, winning 3 times and a good fourth in the Grade 2 at Aintree 3 months ago, and ran a stormer thrown in at the deep end on this Flat debut, showing useful form and gaining black type straight away; in touch, headway over 2f out, kept on well, took third well inside final 1f; she'll be suited by 1¾m and is open to improvement even though she's run to a high level here.

PURE ART ran respectably but looked to be stretched by the 2f longer trip; led, took strong hold, headed over 1f out, weakened.

YORKIDDING after just 5 days off, possibly found the race coming too soon and ran below form; raced wide, tracked pace, driven over 2f out, weakened.

TIOGA PASS possibly needed the run after 9 months off; held up, pushed along over 3f out, weakened over 2f out, made no impression.

SIGNE (IRE) up in grade, lost her unbeaten record but reportedly bled and is better than this; slowly into stride, ridden over 2f out, found little, made no impression; she should be suited by this trip.

COLONIAL CLASSIC (FR) clearly wasn't 100% on the day; prominent, lost place 3f out, eased off.
