put in a typical display in many ways, plenty not to like about it, but pulled it out of the fire to end a long losing run, proving that he's still a useful staying handicap chaser even though a very risky betting proposition; soon behind, made mistakes and raced lazily, crept closer ninth, blundered twelfth, in touch seventeenth, third when slow again 3 out, jumped better at last 2, kept grinding away and found plenty to lead dying strides as Alto Des Mottes tied up badly, suited by the way the race developed with the leaders going hard; he's anything but an obvious type to follow up.

is clearly progressing all of a sudden, having a subsequent winner in second when he ran away with a race at Newcastle last month, and from 13 lb higher in the weights he looked certain to follow up most of the way round, the moral victor in many ways, as unlike Lackamon he'd done everything right and just got very tired late on, never having been too far off the pace on his first try at a marathon trip; in touch, travelled strongly, went handy seventh, led 4 out, clear when pecked last, tied up quickly final 100 yds, collared dying strides; will need recovery time but is on the up, still relatively young and lightly raced over fences.

has slipped to a good mark, below his last win, and fared much better than of late in first-time cheekpieces, deserving extra credit on the day; close up, went on ninth, headed thirteenth, led again sixteenth, headed again 4 out, no extra after 2 out, raced closer to pace than ideal; not the most consistent but on too good a mark to ignore for similar events.

didn't match last effort but this was a more competitive affair and he remains in good form, racing closer to the pace than ideal which explains why he tired late on; prominent, challenged sixteenth, driven 4 out, weakened 2 out.

A host of front runners suggested this would be a well-run affair and there was no let up in the gallop even over the marathon trip, a gruelling affair that only 5 managed to finish, with the other quartet who completed rather setting the race up for dour stayer Lackamon, who'd blundered his way round well off the pace; a low view is advised of the bare form and there's no question Alto Des Mottes shaped best, whilst well-treated pair Gorgehous Lliege and Pete The Feat also shaped a lot better than the distance they were beaten.

LACKAMON put in a typical display in many ways, plenty not to like about it, but pulled it out of the fire to end a long losing run, proving that he's still a useful staying handicap chaser even though a very risky betting proposition; soon behind, made mistakes and raced lazily, crept closer ninth, blundered twelfth, in touch seventeenth, third when slow again 3 out, jumped better at last 2, kept grinding away and found plenty to lead dying strides as Alto Des Mottes tied up badly, suited by the way the race developed with the leaders going hard; he's anything but an obvious type to follow up.
