was easily the least exposed in the field and, back in headgear, showed improved form to get off the mark in this sphere at the third attempt, looking some way ahead of his current mark; in touch, travelled smoothly, jumped fine, went prominent early final circuit, loomed up between last 2, produced to lead near finish, had plenty in hand; should progress further, just a 5-y-o after all, likely to stay further than this if required, all in all one to keep on the right side.

was fitter with last month's comeback in the Southern National under his belt, given a chance by the handicapper and running up to his best for his inexperienced jockey, shaping well all told, unlucky to bump into an unexposed rival a fair way ahead of his mark; tracked pace, jumped well in main, bumped eighth, baulked next, led fourteenth, joined 3 out, shaken up approaching next (where untidy), headed run-in, kept on; one to be interested in for something like The Last Fling at Haydock or the Classic Chase at Warwick - both events in which he's been placed before - in the coming weeks.

has a patchy profile, so it was no great surprise he failed to match his winning Bangor effort 10 days earlier, possibly finding this coming soon enough, though his jumping remains a cause for concern regardless; held up, not always fluent/went in snatches, jumped right twelfth, reminders before next, struggling when bad mistake 5 out.

A useful handicap chase run at a sensible gallop, the contenders eliminated one-by-one on the final circuit until just Alternatif and Pete The Feat remained, the former value for more than the winning margin, though both will be worth bearing in mind when next seen.

ALTERNATIF (FR) was easily the least exposed in the field and, back in headgear, showed improved form to get off the mark in this sphere at the third attempt, looking some way ahead of his current mark; in touch, travelled smoothly, jumped fine, went prominent early final circuit, loomed up between last 2, produced to lead near finish, had plenty in hand; should progress further, just a 5-y-o after all, likely to stay further than this if required, all in all one to keep on the right side.
