produced best effort to date to make a winning handicap debut, and is value for an even greater margin of victory, not fully extended in the closing stages; close up, travelled smoothly, led approaching 2f out, looked in control approaching final 1f, just pushed out; ohe's likely to progress further and looks one to follow, the Winter Derby reportedly an option, which will require another chunk of improvement, but longer term we already know that he's effective on turf.

shaped as if still in top form, not seen to very best effect this time, not that the winner was at full stretch to hold him off; raced off the pace, travelled well, had to wait for gap home turn, headway approaching final 1f, kept on but no impression on winner; will remain of interest.

again ran creditably, and has performed pretty consistently this winter, but his mark is probably about right; in touch, travelled well, every chance over 1f out, one paced.

gelded since last seen and after 12 weeks off, again ran creditably, despite dropping back in trip, though looks no more than averagely treated at present; raced off the pace, forced wide entering straight, kept on.

failed to build on the promise of last run, though we know enough about him to think that he can go close off this mark when things go his way; mid-field, ridden over 2f out, no extra final 1f, not persevered with once held.

back in headgear, fared no better than last time back up in trip, and seems to have gone off the boil all of a sudden; led, took strong hold, headed approaching 2f out, weakened.

A useful handicap won readily by the improving Star Archer, the 3 immediately in behind finishing in a bit of a heap but the winner was clear-cut, just pushed out in the straight; the early pace was on the modest side, increasing around 3f out.

STAR ARCHER produced best effort to date to make a winning handicap debut, and is value for an even greater margin of victory, not fully extended in the closing stages; close up, travelled smoothly, led approaching 2f out, looked in control approaching final 1f, just pushed out; ohe's likely to progress further and looks one to follow, the Winter Derby reportedly an option, which will require another chunk of improvement, but longer term we already know that he's effective on turf.
