A smart listed event, but one contested by fully-exposed sorts, and the way things developed had a say in the outcome, the winner seen to good effect from the front.

AROD (IRE) ran best race since returning from Australia to gain first win since 2015, though owed plenty to a well-judged ride; dictated, shaken up around 2f out, always holding on, had the run of the race; has run well both times he's been to Epsom, including when winning the Diomed as a 4-y-o, and this sort of form would see him competitive in that contest again.

OH THIS IS US (IRE) enjoyed a productive spell in Dubai and, after 11 weeks off, turned in another sound display; in touch, went prominent before halfway, effort/switched under 2f out, kept on without ever really looking like getting past the winner, but did pull clear of remainder; he's a straightforward and largely consistent type, who should remain competitive at listed/minor pattern level.

KHAFOO SHEMEMI (IRE) back on less testing conditions, wasted no time getting back to form, despite looking ill-at-ease on this tight track; close up, hung off bend before halfway and lost place, ridden under 3f out, not quicken final 1f.

MR OWEN (USA) ran creditably away from soft ground, especially as hold-up tactics didn't show him to good effect in a tactical affair; dropped out, pushed along over 2f out, kept on, left poorly placed.

VIA VIA (IRE) faced a stiffish task and ran as well as could be expected, albeit never looking like threatening the principals; mid-field, struggling over 3f out, never a threat; this underlines that he won't be the easiest to place in the short term.

HORS DE COMBAT wasn't disgraced after 13 weeks off, just not seen to such good effect as when winning a more strongly-run race in Meydan; waited with, switched 2f out, headway soon after, effort flattened out, not ideally placed.

SOVEREIGN DEBT (IRE) fared no better than on reappearance, but may still be working up his fitness, understandable given his age; close up, lost place before halfway, shaken up under 3f out, faded.
