has got to grips with chasing now and improved again to get off the mark in this sphere, helped by his rider's initiative but the best at the weights regardless; raced clear, jumped well, reduced advantage 5 out, kicked on home turn, clear straight, stayed on well; he'll remain a force in staying handicaps.

ran well on form at 3m for the first time over fences, the only one that threatened to make a race of it with the winner in the straight; led main group, jumped soundly, in touch 5 out, pushed along 4 out, edged left, one paced; he's still lightly raced and should continue to give a good account.

a very progressive hurdler last season, shaped encouragingly sent chasing after 11 months off and seems sure to learn from the experience, a likely type for long-distance handicaps in the mud with this behind him; raced off the pace, mistake ninth, outpaced home turn, kept on well latter stages, finished with running left.

An interesting set of novices and the race strikes as one to view positively even if it wasn't that competitive on the day, with the winner soon well clear and more or less unchallenged, a few of his rivals arguably set more to do than was ideal.

HAINAN (FR) has got to grips with chasing now and improved again to get off the mark in this sphere, helped by his rider's initiative but the best at the weights regardless; raced clear, jumped well, reduced advantage 5 out, kicked on home turn, clear straight, stayed on well; he'll remain a force in staying handicaps.

MUSTMEETALADY (IRE) turned in another sound effort; held up, jumped better than last time, in touch twelfth, pushed along 4 out, not quicken; remains unexposed.

BAYWING (IRE) a very progressive hurdler last season, shaped encouragingly sent chasing after 11 months off and seems sure to learn from the experience, a likely type for long-distance handicaps in the mud with this behind him; raced off the pace, mistake ninth, outpaced home turn, kept on well latter stages, finished with running left.
