confirmed promise of last run with a first success in handicaps, admittedly in a race that saw him to something like maximum effect; prominent, travelled smoothly, led early in straight, driven soon after, asserted run-in, well positioned.

up 10 lb, ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before but again didn't look straightforward; mid-field, jumped right third, ridden 2 out, carried head high, mistake last, held soon after.

back over hurdles after 8 weeks off, had the run of the race but in setting such a sedate gallop he wasn't seen to best effect over a much shorter trip than he's used to; dictated, untidy seventh, pushed along home turn, headed early in straight, one paced, needs emphasis more on stamina.
