Six of the 7 had come up short at Royal Ascot and none had shown form good enough to win an average renewal of this listed event, so there were reasons to be fairly negative coming into the race, but the race was well run, in a time that compares well with the older sprint handicap, and the winner at least has the physique to think he can progress, best to credit him with a fair bit of improvement for now, though even that would make this a bit of a substandard running; the first 3 came from the Windsor Castle, which is showing early signs of being a strong renewal of that race.

WELL DONE FOX resumed progress, having had a soft race and a much more competitive one on his last 2 starts, having the physique to go on again, though more will be required if he's to go back up in class, races like the Molecomb presumably on the agenda; handy, led 1f out, found plenty.

LIFE OF RILEY didn't have to overexert himself to the extent he had to in the Windsor Castle and ran easily his best race as a result, evidently learning with racing; close up, took keen hold, shaken up 2f out, every chance final 1f, stayed on.

CHAPELLI hadn't done herself justice in the Windsor Castle and got back on track in calmer waters, though she's crying out for 6f+, any improvement she has to offer stalled until then; in touch, pushed along before halfway, challenged over 1f out, stayed on.

BARBILL (IRE) back down in trip, again found the grade hotter than he could handle, though he ran about as well as he has; slowly into stride, raced off the pace, effort 2f out, not quicken final 1f; he would seem a likely sort to head to nurseries after his last 2 runs.

COLLECT CALL (IRE) faced a stiffer task in this grade and ran about as well as could be expected, ridden more patiently than previously; held up, shaken up over 1f out, made little impression; she remains with potential at a more realistic level.

COUNTRY ROSE (IRE) was well held, doing too much in front and having nothing left late on; led, ridden over 2f out, headed 1f out, weakening when hampered inside final 1f; her speed might be more of an asset in 5f nurseries on a sharper track.

JUNGLE INTHEBUNGLE (IRE) has been most disappointing since beating the runner-up at Beverley, in trouble before the rest here; slowly into stride, raced off the pace, labouring 2f out.
