had run to a high rating when winning the Chester Cup decisively, making this jump not as big as it might have seemed, though to improve again faced with a very different scenario/conditions less than a fortnight on having been primed for that shows just how much he's thriving at present, his new yard deserving significant credit; waited with, loomed up over 2f out, led soon after, forged clear, impressive; he's clearly earned a shot at the Gold Cup (needs supplementing), non-staying efforts in the Ascot Stakes and Queen Alexandra at the last 2 Royal meetings perhaps best not held against him given he's clearly a different model now and connections were talking about a potential Melbourne Cup bid.

ran creditably back up in trip without the headgear this time, best to focus on him winning the well-contested battle for second rather than the distance he was beaten by the winner; dived right leaving stalls, patiently ridden, progress over 2f out, took second 1f out, ran on, no impression on winner; he's still unexposed as a stayer.

wasn't disgraced up in grade but it was a touch disappointing to see him brushed aside so readily, perhaps not totally at home on the ground (edged right under pressure) as the new trip didn't appear an issue; led after 2f, kicked on under 4f out, headed under 2f out, left behind by winner quickly, kept on; he may yet have more to offer over this trip on firmer ground.

again ran creditably, lacking the class for this but once again digging in to hit the frame; prominent, not quicken under 3f out, kept on from over 1f out; he shapes as though he'll stay extreme trips and would be pretty high on the shortlist for the Queen Alexandra at the Royal meeting.

was strong in the betting but failed to come on for reappearance win despite the step back up to 2m promising to suit; mid-field, ridden to challenge under 3f out, not quicken under 2f out, kept on.

again wasn't disgraced but wasn't up to the task stepped up in trip and needs his sights lowering, though his handicap mark (108) doesn't make things easy; led early, chased leaders after 2f, effort over 3f out, one paced.

There wasn't much between most of these on pre-race adjusted ratings, reflected in a good tussle for second, but that was some distance behind Magic Circle who has been transformed by his new stable this spring, his rating right up there with recent impressive winners Big Orange last year and Brown Panther in 2014.

MAGIC CIRCLE (IRE) had run to a high rating when winning the Chester Cup decisively, making this jump not as big as it might have seemed, though to improve again faced with a very different scenario/conditions less than a fortnight on having been primed for that shows just how much he's thriving at present, his new yard deserving significant credit; waited with, loomed up over 2f out, led soon after, forged clear, impressive; he's clearly earned a shot at the Gold Cup (needs supplementing), non-staying efforts in the Ascot Stakes and Queen Alexandra at the last 2 Royal meetings perhaps best not held against him given he's clearly a different model now and connections were talking about a potential Melbourne Cup bid.
