ran well upped in grade, proved at least as good as ever, even though seen to maximum effect, well positioned and with 2 with better form clearly not at their best after a break; led, ridden over 2f out, headed well over 1f out, no match for winner, kept on again final 100 yds to hold second.

wasn't disgraced after 4 months off, likely to be sharper for the run, more patiently ridden than usual; held up, effort 2f out, kept on final 1f, made little impression.

shaped encouragingly after 3 months off, looking fit enough beforehand but weak in the market and likely to be more competitive with this under his belt; held up, pushed along over 2f out, hung right, kept on final 1f, considerately handled; one to be interested in next time.

The market proved the best guide to the outcome of what on paper was an up-to-standard renewal of this event, neither of the favourite's main rivals on form showing to best advantage, the pacemaking runner-up seen to maximum advantage the way the race was run.

WINDHOEK strong in betting, made most of good opportunity back at his optimum trip, with his main rivals on form not at their best after a break; waited with, travelled well, quickened to lead well over 1f out, kept on, though carried head bit awkwardly, had bit in hand; likely to find things a bit tougher back up in grade.
