followed up his reppearance win in the Ormonde Stakes in really good style, defying his small Group 3 penalty and justifying market support, not strictly needing to improve in bare ratings terms, but the strength of his finishing effort suggests he's both better than ever and that he'll have a good chance of staying the trip in the Ascot Gold Cup (he's no bigger than 7/1 with bookmakers now), in which he'll be entitled to respect given the mood he's in at present; well backed; prominent, travelled well, led under pressure over 1f out, went clear final 1f, stayed on strongly to win readily.

again ran creditably, shaping in his usual way, suited by stepping back up in trip but not the steady pace; tracked pace, ridden 4f out, outpaced 3f out, headway over 1f out, chased leader final 1f, stayed on, no impression on winner; he'll continue to run with credit when the emphasis is on stamina, albeit generally opposable for win purposes in competitive events such as this.

produced a career best, evidently well suited by this 2f longer trip; held up, driven 3f out, kept on from over 1f out, never nearer; likely to continue in form, and may be able to pick up a listed race over this sort of trip this season.

wasn't in same form as when an excellent third in the Yorkshire Cup last time, possibly found race coming too soon after just 13 days off; in touch, headway under pressure over 2f out, no extra 1f out; type to bounce back quickly.

wasn't disgraced on first outing since leaving A. Wohler after 9 weeks off, possibly not helped by racing alone on the fair rail in the straight, but stamina more likely the issue on the day; tracked pace, stayed alone on far rail in straight, driven over 2f out and on terms, no extra final 1f; likely to prove best up to 1¾m.

ran to just a similar level as last time, the steady pace not helping given he was patiently ridden and stays very well; held up, not quicken over 2f out, plugged on final 1f, needs emphasis more on stamina.

looked as good as ever when winning over fences here last month and wasn't at all disgraced on this belated Flat debut, just found wanting for pace, though possibly flattered in ratings terms given the steady pace and the lack of rivals behind him; slowly into stride, held up, headway after halfway, outpaced 3f out, plugged on over 1f out.

A competitive renewal of this Group 3 and, despite the relatively steady pace, it should prove solid enough form, the well-backed Brown Panther justifying favouritism in ready fashion - teeing him up for a crack at the Ascot Gold Cup in the process - and followed home by a reliable sort in these type of events.

BROWN PANTHER followed up his reppearance win in the Ormonde Stakes in really good style, defying his small Group 3 penalty and justifying market support, not strictly needing to improve in bare ratings terms, but the strength of his finishing effort suggests he's both better than ever and that he'll have a good chance of staying the trip in the Ascot Gold Cup (he's no bigger than 7/1 with bookmakers now), in which he'll be entitled to respect given the mood he's in at present; well backed; prominent, travelled well, led under pressure over 1f out, went clear final 1f, stayed on strongly to win readily.
