confirmed the promise shown before departing in the Topham, surviving a late scare to resume winning ways; chased leader, upsides 4 out, went on next, clear when bad mistake last (had jumped well in the main until then), ridden out; this was right up there with his best performances over fences, and given his connections, it wouldn't be a surprise if a return to Aintree features in next season's schedule, the Grand Sefton a possible early target (needed the run after 7 months off in that event this time around), though it goes without saying that he'll need to eliminate the jumping errors that largely held him back this campaign.

put his Cheltenham hurdling effort quickly behind him, generally doing little wrong over fences this season; mid-division, effort approaching 3 out, plugged on to take second latter stages.

again ran respectably, worth bearing in mind his best efforts this campaign have come on soft/heavy going; mid-field travelling well, ridden home turn, merely plugged on.

who had won on both previous visits to this track, was undone by more than an 8 lb rise in the weights for last month's Ascot win, overdoing the forcing tactics this time and simply running out of gas; soon well clear racing freely, typically jumped right, reduced advantage ninth, joined 4 out, headed next, beaten when untidy last, finished tired.

Not a great turnout considering the prize money on offer, though at least a good gallop was ensured by the presence of Creevytennant, who raced with typical exuberance until tiring late on, Witness In Court taking full advantage to belatedly get off the mark for the season.
