has never fully justified his vast early promise/reputation, tough to catch right over the last couple of seasons, but on his day he's a real talent and this was very much one of his good days, suited by the return to 1m, whilst a small-field scenario like this is possibly ideal too; held up, in touch after 3f, led under pressure approaching final 1f, stayed on well; he's not sure to be in the same form next time.

got back on track after a below-par run in France last time, this a more suitable race for him back down in class and returned to a track where he goes so well; soon well clear, joined around 2f out, headed approaching final 1f, one paced; his pace and exuberance are his biggest assets and, although he stays and has won at 1m, it's possible shorter is absolutely ideal.

looked rusty after 3 months off, perhaps also caught out by the firmest ground she's encountered, entirely possible she'll sharpen up for the run ahead of other autumn targets, encouragement for other days to be taken from how she finished; slowly into stride, in rear, outpaced 3f out then looked a bit ungainly in Dip, never a threat but stayed on inside final 1f without being unduly punished.

thrived and peaked in her 4-y-o season, when winning 2 Group 1's, and she just hasn't looked the same filly this term, trying her best here but not good enough; chased leaders, driven over 2f out, one paced; it probably won't be long before she's retired for breeding purposes.

Only 6 runners lined up for this year's Joel Stakes and it didn't look the hottest renewal on paper beforehand, that even more the case in the event as it rather fell apart, all bar the first 2 somewhat disappointing on the day.
