Three Faces West put up a dominant display from the front, maintaining a good pace throughout, and it's worth viewing his performance quite positively for all that the race rather fell apart around him.

THREE FACES WEST (IRE) followed up from last time and is in the form of his life at present, this a smart performance, and it's clear that the fitting of cheekpieces and switch to front-running tactics have had a very positive effect; made all, jumped well, clear 4 out and stayed on well; it's likely to get much tougher now, though, as his mark will shoot up again and he could be forced into graded races.

COOLOGUE (IRE) wasn't disgraced, a step back in the right direction after being pulled up in the Hennessy, but he inherited second to some extent and probably wasn't in the same form as for his Cheltenham handicap win in October; chased leader, hit sixth, held 3 out, no match for winner.

AQALIM increasingly looks one to avoid; raced off the pace, looked none too keen, behind when hit thirteenth, made no impression.

JUST A PAR (IRE) shaped as if needing the run after 8 months off and probably has bigger handicap targets upcoming back over marathon distances; in touch, outpaced after thirteenth, left in a place next, tied up run-in.

DRUMACOO (IRE) is a talented horse on his day and was strong in the betting after 10 months off, but he got no further than the third fence, blundering and unseating.

CAMPING GROUND (FR) was in the process of running well when departing, looking in good form, though it was too far out to suggest the outcome, especially given his unproven stamina; tracked pace, went with enthusiasm, going well when fell 5 out (had jumped soundly to that point).
