With the exception of Excelberation's standout win in this race in 2011, this year's renewal looked on a par with recent runnings, last year's winner Gregorian not having as much in hand on the pick of form over his rivals as the market indicated; a steadily-run race produced a tight finish and although the proximity of the third may suggest the form needs treating with some caution, it's best to give the winner credit for further improvement, up again in grade.

BRETON ROCK (IRE) after 11 weeks off, proved better than ever, up in grade; in touch, travelled well, disputed lead inside final 1f, just prevailed on nod; well served by this trip and easy ground, so Prix de La Foret is an obvious target, even though a bit more is likely to be required.

GREGORIAN (IRE) ran creditably after just 6 days off, clearly none the worse for his exertions at Deauville, bidding for back-to-back wins in this race, running close to form and losing nothing in defeat; tracked pace, led over 1f out, joined inside final 1f, just lost out on the nod; will continue to give a good account and well worth another try at 6f, with the Sprint Cup presumably an option.

BRAZOS (IRE) seemed to excel himself, back in pattern company, though the pace of the race means the form may not be that reliable and he needs to show he can repeat it; waited with, effort 2f out, kept on final 1f, never landed a blow.

PROFESSOR back on softer ground, was below form, though much less so than on his penultimate start, as likely to have been ill served by making the running; led, headed over 1f out, no extra well inside final 1f.

CHIL THE KITE was below form after 8 weeks off, seemingly totally unsuited by the way the race developed, racing solo and much more prominently than ideal, effort best ignored; raced alone towards stand side to halfway, close up, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out.

PRODUCER after just 2 days off, presumably found race coming too soon, for all that he tends to be kept away from going softer than good these days; chased leader, ridden over 2f out, folded tamely.
