looked well-in under a penalty for his win at Cheltenham the previous week and, though unable to follow up, lost nothing in defeat, this race probably not suiting his style of racing quite so well yet shaping as though still at the top of his game; patiently ridden, travelled fluently, steady headway from eighth, effort 3 out, every chance from next, stayed on, splitting a couple of more prominently-ridden rivals, one who is similarly thriving and another who was relatively unexposed.

had possible excuses for a below-par effort, this coming just 7 days after Exeter and arguably ideally suited by stiffer tracks these days (especially when conditions aren't testing), also disappointing at Haydock earlier in the season; prominent, pushed along after ninth, outpaced approaching straight.
