An unsatisfactory renewal of what is usually a most informative trial, a dawdling early gallop meaning it developed into a 3f sprint, and Ebanoran, who was first past the post, was demoted following a stewards' enquiry after causing interference to both Fascinating Rock and, to a greater extent, Geoffrey Chaucer.

EBANORAN (IRE) is clearly a most progressive colt but isn't yet the finished article, greenness costing him dearly here, colliding with the runner-up late on and subsequently demoted following an enquiry; held up, pulled hard, quickened to lead 2f out, got first run, wandered badly, all out to hold on, demoted; will need to settle if he is to stay 1½m but remains open to improvement.

FASCINATING ROCK (IRE) continues to progress, though needed the help of the stewards to complete his hat-trick, picking up well having not been ideally placed when the sprint for home began, carried right near the finish and not quite getting there; dropped out, still bit to do entering straight, bumped late on, closed all the way to the line, unsuited by the way the race developed; will need to find plenty of improvement to trouble Australia et al at Epsom and that track isn't certain to suit this long-striding individual, but will stay 1½m.

GEOFFREY CHAUCER (USA) under a penalty for his Beresford Stakes win when last seen 7 months ago, was unlucky not to finish closer, progressing again upped in trip; mid-field, hampered over 1f out, keeping on when denied a run final 100 yds, finished with running left; he'll need to improve another chunk if he's to make a big impact in the Epsom Derby, but appeals as at least having frame claims if lining up there.

ANSWERED ran to similar level to last time, but had no excuses and finished a bit further behind Fascinating Rock than in the Ballysax, all of which suggests that there may not be much more improvement to come from him; close up, every chance 2f out, effort flattened out.

HIGHLY TOXIC (IRE) looked to have plenty on his plate in this grade, but seemed to excel himself 1f longer trip; led until 2f out, no extra; well capable of winning a maiden.

ALTRUISTIC (IRE) after 7 months off, was beaten by more than lack of stamina over 2f longer trip, is better than this; close up, ridden entering straight, weakened; worth another chance.
