A good renewal of this listed event, even if one of the main players on form disappointed, the first 2 a notch above what it usually takes to win this, the winner notably so, not needing to be at his best to overcome an absence; the pace was modest early but increased around halfway.

YOUNG RASCAL (FR) gelded since last seen, was easy to back, but set the standard and didn't need to be at his best to make a winning return from 6 months off, looking a bit rusty when initially asked for his effort but well on top come the line; tracked pace, ridden over 2f out, stayed on to lead 1f out, kept going well; he's reportedly set to go on his travels, the Hong Kong Vase nominated as a possible target, his best form certainly good enough to be competitive in races of that ilk, the bigger question being how he'll fare if encountering firm ground, raced only on good going or softer on turf to date.

LOXLEY (IRE) who sweated up beforehand, confirmed return to form, losing little in defeat to one a cut above this level, though he looked a little ungainly under pressure and may be worth a try in some headgear; soon steadied, not settle fully, headway over 2f out, hung right, every chance over 1f out, one paced.

SPIRIT OF APPIN confirmed the improvement shown last time, that evidently not a fluke for all that she was again seen to good effect, ultimately beaten by a pair of superior rivals; close up, travelled fluently, went on halfway, quickened early in straight, headed 1f out, no extra.

LAST WINTER (SAF) ran to just a similar level as last time, keener than ideal upped in trip, perhaps still working his way back for this yard, though he may not prove the easiest to place; raced off the pace, took strong hold, ridden under 3f out, one paced, never a threat.

ROYAL LINE was tight in the betting, despite having something to find at the weights with Young Rascal, but proved to be a disappointment in any case, possibly amiss to run as he did; in touch, headway out wide end of back straight, weakened approaching 2f out.

MINA VAGANTE in first-time cheekpieces, was woefully out of her depth at this level; led until halfway, remained prominent until lost place entering straight.
