The winner is hard to fault but, all things considered, this was an unsatisfactory renewal, in part due to the favourite's flop yet mostly due to a farcically slow pace, after the field had taken 12 seconds to even reach the starter after the tapes had been let go, Itchy Feet eventually allowed to stride on and not fully extended to see off the challenge of the patiently-ridden runner-up.

ITCHY FEET (FR) continues to look a bright prospect, maintaining his unbeaten start to the season and taking his hurdling record to 2-2, though how much this listed breakthrough revealed about him is open to question, given he was best placed in such a slowly-run race, taking full advantage all the same; dictated, jumped better as race wore on, tackled from 2 out, found extra; he'll may well lack the required sharpness if finding himself in a more conventional race at this sort of level but there's more improvement in him regardless.

GRAND SANCY (FR) has started the season looking a different proposition, deserving extra credit for what was, on the book, a fine second to a less-exposed one in any case; waited with, mistake second, in touch 3 out, pressed leader from 2 out, held final 100 yds.

LEAPAWAY (IRE) finally had his winning run ended, by no means his yard's first short-priced flop in recent times, notwithstanding such an unsatisfactory affair might normally act as a free pass; in touch, not settle fully, shaken up early in straight, no response, possibly amiss.

HIGGS (IRE) ran poorly after 6 months off, more to it than the run of the race; chased leader until back straight, outpaced from 3 out.
