completed a 4-timer in most taking fashion up in grade, his form last time having been boosted by the runner-up winning a handicap convincingly in the week, a smart novice with serious claims in graded company, though needs to show he can handle more testing ground and stiffer tracks; in touch, jumped fluently, travelled strongly, led 2 out, quickened before last, won easily.

had something to find in this grade and was well held after 7 months off; in rear, lost touch after 3 out; a chaser on looks, he'd appeared promising in 2 starts over hurdles in March and may yet build on those.

was well backed after 5 months off and run best excused; led, joined when bad mistake 3 out, not recover, eased off after 2 out; worth another chance to build on earlier form.

This looked more competitive on form than the market allowed, well up to standard for the grade, but the favourite was smart on the Flat and took a significant step forward in a stronger and better-run race than he'd been contesting.
