The combination of rain-softened ground and a sound gallop made for a stamina test in this fairly useful handicap, the well-treated winner a class apart but chased home by a few who look fairly weighted themselves, all of which suggests this should prove solid form.

VICS CANVAS (IRE) tackling 5f longer trip, having just his fourth start over fences and making handicap debut in this sphere, made the most of a lenient piece of handicapping (18 lb lower than over hurdles) to score as he liked; close up, jumped well, travelled strongly, led 3 out, in command soon after, had plenty in hand; sure to get hit hard by the handicapper but this shows all his ability remains and he's totally unexposed as a staying chaser, so he will continue to give a good account.

DUSHREMBRANDT (IRE) ran well again, having no problem with this longer trip, and did enough to suggest this new mark isn't beyond him, only beaten by a handicap blot this time; mid-field, went handy after 5 out, left behind from 3 out, stuck to task.

UNOCCUPIED after 6 months off and minus the cheekpieces, ran as well as he's ever done, building up a good record in these staying handicaps; prominent, driven 5 out, every chance 3 out, one paced soon after; should continue to give a good account.

SWORD FISH (IRE) after a pipe-opener on the Flat and only 2 lb higher than when winning corresponding event last season, ran respectably; mid-division, slow twelfth, went handy after next, outpaced end of back straight, jumped left 2 out, plugged on.

A DECENT EXCUSE (IRE) ran well despite being stretched by 2f longer trip; prominent, travelled well, led after 5 out, pressed on, headed after 3 out, no extra; consistent sort who should continue to give his running, but looks just averagely handicapped.

THE BISHOP LOONEY (IRE) back over fences after 5 months off, has been given a chance by the handicapper but this was a rather laboured effort; mid-field, struggling 5 out, plodded on; may benefit from the refitting of blinkers.

KASHLINE (IRE) better judged on previous form, when looking as good as ever, as he didn't get home over this 5f longer trip; held up, crept closer back straight, one paced from 4 out.

DARENJAN (IRE) more miss than hit and turned in one of his lesser efforts, the 3f longer trip just a side issue; held up, mistake thirteenth, always behind.

CARRY EACH OTHER (IRE) ran poorly after 6 months off; mid-field, hit eleventh, struggling 5 out, no further impression; looks summed up by mark in any case.

MOST CHASTE (IRE) has struggled since winning a Wexford maiden in July, harshly treated on the back of that, and fared no better after 6 weeks off tackling longer trip; disputed lead, headed third, led thirteenth, headed 5 out, soon done with.

WHODOYOUTHINK (IRE) looked all set to drop out tamely when falling on the final circuit; disputed lead, went on third, closed down circuit out, driven soon after, headed thirteenth, weakening when fell fourteenth; not one to be interested in.

BALLYFINBOY (IRE) didn't stay 4f longer trip, though was in the hunt for long enough to suggest he's still in reasonable heart; mid-field, hit eighth, struggling 5 out, soon done with.

THE AMARILLO KID (IRE) back in headgear, ran no sort of race; held up, labouring early final circuit, beaten long way out.

PROTARAS (USA) found run of reasonable form coming to an end, was let down by his jumping, held up, clouted ninth, reminders after, beaten long way out.

TOM HORN (IRE) yet to prove his stamina for this trip but more to this showing than that, possibly amiss given how quickly he checked out; close up, driven back straight, found little.

IPSOS DU BERLAIS (FR) ran poorly after 8 months off; held up, raced lazily, beaten long way out.

NEAREST THE PIN (IRE) failed to stay markedly longer trip, better judged on previous form; always behind.
