A major Oaks trial that can vary quite a bit from year to year in terms of the performance required to win it, this very much at the lower end of the scale, the field in too much of a heap to take a more positive view of the form, the principals promising beforehand rather having run to a particularly high level, the form well short of what would be required at Epsom.

NAUSHA clearly hadn't done herself justice at Kempton and got firmly back on track with a narrow success, running to a useful level over this longer trip; held up, shaken up over 3f out, headway 2f out, led inside final 1f, kept on, ridden out; she wouldn't be a certain stayer were she to take her chance in the Oaks, plenty more needed anyway, and the Diane may be a better option.

ENTITLE upped in trip, had plenty to find on form and progressed significantly after 5 months off, up in grade, despite still seeming to want experience; held up, effort 3f out, carried head bit awkwardly, challenged inside final 1f, kept on; will stay 1½m; type to go on progressing, with the Ribblesdale an option next.

FRANKELLINA upped in trip, after 7 months off, was much improved from debut, though she would surely have won had she got away on terms, other signs of inexperience in her effort as well; very slowly away, in rear, good progress over 3f out, ridden 2f out, ran green, every chance final 1f, just failed; will stay 1½m; she's sure to progress again and is likely to prove the best of these in time.

FRESNEL ran well upped in grade, though seemed to have her limitations exposed, well positioned as she was; handy, shaken up 3f out, carried right over 1f out, edged left well inside final 1f, not quicken final 100 yds.

BLUE GARDENIA (IRE) upped in trip, after 6 months off, was more exposed than the quartet that beat her and ran as well as could be expected, up in grade; raced off the pace, shaken up 3f out, not quicken, switched over 1f out, kept on, never landed a blow; will stay 1½m.

I'LL HAVE ANOTHER (IRE) was exposed at listed level and couldn't have been expected to do any better than she did in this higher grade; led after 1f, kicked on straight, edged right over 1f out, headed inside final 1f, faded final 100 yds.

SPARKLE ROLL (FR) failed to meet expectations, ending her sequence of run-to-run improvement, lacking a turn of foot when required; held up, effort 3f out, not quicken, held when hampered over 1f out, faded; she's likely to get a chance over further next, holding entries in both the Oaks and the Ribblesdale.

SAND SHARE upped in trip, after 7 months off, looked about the form pick, the one runner with a good run in pattern company at 2 yrs, but she was well below that level, despite looking in very good shape beforehand; waited with, shaken up over 3f out, not quicken, weakened after 2f out.

SWIFT ROSE (IRE) making turf debut, upped in trip, was well held; led 1f, tracked pace after, ridden over 2f out, weakened final 1f.

DUBAI BLUE (USA) ran poorly after 8 months off, beaten before the 2f longer trip became an issue; prominent, not settle fully, weakened 3f out.
