Not necessarily altogether muddling form but a good ride from the front by Adam Kirby seemed to make the difference between the first 3 in this sprint handicap, the placed pair closing all the way to the line having been slightly caught out turning in; each of them that fought out the finish have shown improvement.

CAPTAIN SECRET improved further after 11 weeks off, completing the hat-trick, but there was an opportunistic element to the performance; dictated, went with zest, kicked on around 2f out, all out to hold on, had the benefit of an enterprising ride; one to take on next time for all that she's a likeable type.

OUTBACKER (IRE) isn't totally straightforward but did show a better attitude here than last time and produced best effort to date; prominent, driven 2f out, edged left over 1f out but not so marked as previously and stuck to task well late on, closing with every stride.

LINCOLN (IRE) has perhaps filled his frame more over the winter (unfurnished last year) and, having been strong in the betting, he improved after 6 months off and might even have won if the gallop had been stronger; prominent, not settle fully, outpaced around 2f out, ran on; consistent type, will continue to give a good account.

MUIR LODGE after 6 months off (has been gelded), didn't have the chance the market suggested, on a stiff mark on what he's achieved so far, underlined by the fact that this was actually the highest rating he's achieved to date; held up, took strong hold, effort early in straight, not look keen, one paced; there are definite signs of temperament.

CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT (IRE) was easy to back and shaped as if needing run after 4 months off; in touch, shaken up home turn, weakened final 1f.

RIBBLETON ran no sort of race on first outing since leaving Richard Fahey after 5 months off (has been gelded); dwelt, never travelling well, always behind.
