had hinted at a revival last time and built on that 18 days on having been dropped a further 4 lb, suited by coming off a good gallop; patiently ridden, smooth headway after 4 out, jumped on 3 out, well clear soon after, won easily; likely to remain well treated on old form.

got back on track, benefiting from the drop back in trip, though it was a familiar story in the jumping department, going well (though not as well as the winner) when hitting 3 out; prominent, smooth headway 4 out, led soon after, joined when clouted 3 out, brushed aside soon after, mistake 2 out, no extra; he's capable of winning something similar from this mark if avoiding errors.

in first-time cheekpieces, again ran below form and has struggled from his new mark since winning a poor contest in February; handy, led sixth, headed after eighth, led again after 5 out, effort when bad mistake 3 out, faded.

was below form after another 3 months off, this performance - along with the gaps between his last 2 races - not exactly encouraging; prominent, not always fluent, led fourth, mistake sixth, headed soon after, led again ninth, lost place before 4 out, driven home turn, slow 3 out, pulled up before last.

While only 4 got around and the favourite underperformed, the winner had been given a big chance by the handicapper and the result looks sound enough between the front pair; the pace was fair, the lead changing hands several times throughout.
