Most of these don't have much, if anything, in hand of their current marks in truth but Baoulet Delaroque stood out as a lightly raced, unexposed novice and he bolted up from an in-form rival in Sir Ivan, who'd also been placed at this course on his most recent start; it was a good test in the conditions and there's no reason at all to question the result.

BAOULET DELAROQUE (FR) had his Doncaster form boosted earlier in the week when the runner-up went one better and made a mockery of his opening handicap mark as he followed up impressively in the face of what, in theory at least, was a tougher task; held up, tanked along, crept closer 5 out, close up 3 out, kicked on approaching next, drew clear quickly, untidy last, had plenty in hand; he's open to further improvement, more valuable handicaps no doubt on connections' radar for him now, and he's one to keep on the right side of.

SIR IVAN ran creditably after 6 weeks off, now placed on 3 of his 4 outings this season, but has crept up the weights as a result and getting his head in front in these good quality handicaps that he has to contest isn't going to be easy; made running, travelled well, headed approaching 2 out, mistakes last 2, one paced, no match for winner.

DOLORES DELIGHTFUL (FR) back over hurdles and tongue tied after 7 weeks off, got back on track faced with barely enough of a stamina test; held up, crept closer 5 out, chased leaders 3 out, ridden before next, kept on; will benefit from return to 2¾m+.

THE GEEGEEZ GEEGEE (IRE) might have needed run after 9 weeks off, shaping that way as he looked likely to play more of a hand in the finish for a long way; in touch, went with enthusiasm, close up after 3 out, left behind approaching next; not one to write off, with lower-grade handicaps than this open to him.

SHAMMICK BOY (IRE) back over hurdles, was still well below best form but took a step back in right direction after a really poor display last time; pressed leader, outpaced between 3 out and 2 out, plugged on.

SPACE WALKER (IRE) who was in first-time cheekpieces, is unproven on heavy ground, which he's encountered the last twice, and less testing conditions in the spring could see him bounce back; tracked pace, struggling after 5 out, tailed off.

NORSE LEGEND followed a good run with below-par one; prominent, early mistakes, lost place early final circuit, beaten long way out.

PHANTOM PRINCE (IRE) was well held on first outing since leaving Mrs J. Harrington after 5 months off; in touch, folded tamely 4 out, seemed amiss.
