A steady gallop made this a very messy contest and it's highly unlikely to prove reliable form.

SUPERCILIARY bounced back to form, a return to less testing ground probably suiting, but the way the race panned out also saw him to maximum effect; dictated steady pace, tackled 2 out, kept going well, very much had the run of things; circumstances are unlikely to be so favourable next time.

FROZEN OVER produced best effort to date in first-time tongue strap after 11 weeks off; mid-division, headway after 3 out, challenged next, no extra final 50 yds; he seems best away from testing ground.

WATT BRODERICK (IRE) had an outstanding chance having escaped a penalty for Stratford win 2 days earlier and shaped better than the bare result, just not seen to best effect in this messy race; dropped out, travelled well, headway before 2 out, not fluent there, kept on, disadvantaged by the run of the race; has another entry off the same mark again in the coming days and will have to be interest if taking up one of those engagements.

KING'S WARRIOR (FR) easy to back making handicap debut, failed to improve as expected but shaped better than the bare result and is well worth another chance; held up, went with enthusiasm, tracked pace after 3 out, weakened, unsuited by the way the race developed; remains with potential as a hurdler.

TASTE THE WINE (IRE) is better judged on previous form given this was such a messy contest; mid-division, effort after 3 out, one paced.

NOBLE FRIEND (IRE) who'd run really well in a jumpers' bumper last time, failed to improve making handicap debut from a stiff-looking mark; mid-field, progress after 3 out, went prominent next, weakened.

QUITE BY CHANCE wasn't on a going day, his form proving patchy; raced off the pace, pushed along 3 out, never on terms.

SILVERGROVE hadn't been done any favours by the handicapper but clearly wasn't 100% on the day; chased leader, folded tamely 4 out, seemed amiss.

AUGUST HILL (IRE) wasn't seen to best effect on return from 13 weeks off; tracked pace, raced too freely, chased leader after third, weakening when fell heavily last, beaten at time but would have benefited from a stronger gallop; her headstrong nature is a problem in general, however, and it might be worth trying an aid like a hood to try to settle the nerves.
