A useful handicap and a well-contested one for the course, too, the gallop sound and, for a change here, hard-luck stories thin on the ground, though the winner did get a ride which saw him to really good advantage, Indy and Birdman likely to get closer to him another day at the same weights.

INSTANT ATTRACTION (IRE) improved again to follow up his Chester success, the ride getting everything out of him on the day, but we've seen before that he's a difficult horse to peg as held by the handicapper, tough and likeable as he is; tracked pace, produced to lead over 2f out, ridden out, rather getting first run on Indy and Birdman in particular.

INDY (IRE) was strong in the betting and ran well after 10 weeks off, if anything leaving the impression that even this maybe didn't quite get to the bottom of him; in touch, shaken up over 2f out, stayed on, not stopped in his run at any stage but, equally, a bit tight for room when initially asked for greater effort and seemingly only fully expressing himself late in the day, still with something to give come the line..

OFF ART wasted no time getting back to form but was seen to maximum effect under a more positive ride than usual; made running, ridden 3f out, headed over 2f out, stayed on.

BIRDMAN (IRE) failed to bring up his 4-timer but ran well under the circumstances, not seen to best effect and shaping well enough to think he'll continue to be of interest from this sort of mark, things likely to go better for him another day; held up, travelled fluently, switched left to come round field 2f out, stayed on, unable to get in a meaningful challenge to one that had got first run.

DUBAI DYNAMO ran better than last time back at a course where he's got such a good record, things not really panning out ideally for him, either; patiently ridden, effort against far rail 2f out, kept on without ever really having enough room to fully open out, never landed a blow.

JOHNNY CAVAGIN again shaped as if in good form on first outing since leaving Richard Guest; steadied at the start, held up, travelled better than most, headway over 3f out, no extra approaching final 1f, if anything leaving the impression that 1m stretches him; should prove suited by a return to 7f.

JACBEQUICK produced a rare below-par effort but arguably isn't as well suited to Ripon as some other Northern tracks and is the type to bounce back sooner rather than later; held up, shaken up under 3f out, never landed a blow.

DREAM WALKER (FR) continues below form this season; bustled along to press leader from advantageous draw, pushed along under 3f out, dropped away over 1f out, eased off.

BORDER BANDIT (USA) has gone well here in the past but was below form; held up, driven over 2f out, made no impression.

HAAF A SIXPENCE simply ran poorly this time, having no obvious excuses, his win at Southwell head and shoulders above his other recent form; tracked pace, folded over 2f out.
