after just 6 days off, showed improved form to justify support, the strong pace coupled with the drop in trip seeing him to excellent advantage but dominant nevertheless; raced off the pace, headway under pressure over 2f out, led approaching final 1f, kept on well for just hand-riding, eased inside final 50 yds, impressive; it'll make sense to turn him out under a penalty, in a couple of races at York on Saturday.

got back on track, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests but never turning the table on the winner; mid-field, ridden over 2f out, not clear run soon after, forced to switch over 1f out, kept on inside final 1f, conceded first run.

easy to back, wasn't disgraced in the end but there was an element of him making up cheap ground as the pace collapsed; in rear, outpaced, late headway, suited by the way the race developed.

in first-time blinkers, did too much too soon and is best excused this run, though the fact connections have reached for different forms of headgear so soon implies some frustration on their part; forced pace, driven approaching 2f out, headed over 1f out, faded inside last ½f.

A strongly-run run 3-y-o handicap contested by a number of lightly-raced sorts; a few had excuses but the winner was clearly much improved, albeit after having things set up for him.

GOLDEN APOLLO after just 6 days off, showed improved form to justify support, the strong pace coupled with the drop in trip seeing him to excellent advantage but dominant nevertheless; raced off the pace, headway under pressure over 2f out, led approaching final 1f, kept on well for just hand-riding, eased inside final 50 yds, impressive; it'll make sense to turn him out under a penalty, in a couple of races at York on Saturday.

EL HOMBRE shaped as if still in good form, getting into a battle from the word go but finishing best of those who were up with the pace; helped force pace, ridden approaching 2f out, one paced.

ESPRIT DE CORPS easy to back, wasn't disgraced in the end but there was an element of him making up cheap ground as the pace collapsed; in rear, outpaced, late headway, suited by the way the race developed.

HOLMESWOOD in first-time blinkers, did too much too soon and is best excused this run, though the fact connections have reached for different forms of headgear so soon implies some frustration on their part; forced pace, driven approaching 2f out, headed over 1f out, faded inside last ½f.

BLACK ISLE BOY (IRE) up a further 5 lb, ran poorly in an attempt to land the 4-timer; in touch, weakened approaching final 1f.
