A couple of useful sprinters pulled away in the latter stages, the result easy enough to make sense of despite the lack of runners.

GARRUS (IRE) rather tailed off at 2 yrs after a promising start but, refreshed by 6 months off, he resumed winning ways with an improved effort, the drop to 5f not an issue in the slightest and clearly a useful sprinter; disputed lead, went on approaching halfway, pushed out.

POCKET DYNAMO (USA) after 5 months off, looked the pick on his 2yo form but did have a penalty to carry and seemed beaten fair and square by one that was probably slightly less exposed; waited with, progress around halfway, chased leader under 2f out, stayed on, no impression on winner; he's still had just the one run on the all-weather, despite having a pedigree that suggests he should be very much at home on artificial surfaces.

BROKEN SPEAR was below form after 6 months off but it's way too soon to be suggesting he hasn't trained on, no surprise if he's a fair bit sharper next time; close up, pushed along before halfway, not quicken over 1f out.

SHINING ARMOR was entitled to hunt up the principals on his 2yo form but he's struggling for that level at present; disputed lead early, left behind over 1f out.

MAWDE (IRE) after 9 months off, was flying too high in this grade and will be much better off in middling handicaps; disputed lead early, weakened over 1f out.
