A contest that revolved around the favourite, last year's Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture seemingly presented with an ideal opportunity to resume winning ways; in event, she was made to work hard to land the odds in what was no more than a fair race for the grade, though there are reasons to rate her better than the bare result; the pace was sound.

SECRET GESTURE capitalised on the drop in grade, though the victory was hard fought, success appearing unlikely for the majority of the final 3f; in touch, ridden over 2f out, stayed on to lead close home; visually this was an unimpressive return to the winner's enclosure and she will need to leave the bare form behind to be competitive back in pattern company, but she did display a willing attitude to go through a tight gap close home, shaping as if a return to 1½m would suit.

WALL OF SOUND had something to find at the weights, but she produced a career best after 7 weeks off, this sounder surface clearly in her favour; prominent, effort over 2f out, led briefly final 100 yds, headed close home.

WE'LL GO WALKING (IRE) chased home subsequent Oaks runner-up Tarfasha on her previous outing and again ran creditably; soon led, raced freely, shaken up 3f out, headed final 100 yds, kept on; is a headstrong filly but should continue to give a good account at this level.

TOAST OF THE TOWN (IRE) seemed to excel herself up in grade, though this improvement isn't that difficult to fathom given she can boast some strong maiden form (runner-up to the useful Marsh Daisy on her penultimate start); in touch, driven 3f out, ran on; a maiden win would appear a formality on this evidence, but the fact she spurned a good opportunity at Lingfield last time is worth bearing in mind.

ROCK CHOIR after 7 weeks off, wasted no time getting back on track, leaving the impression this run didn't get to the bottom of her; mid-field, effort 3f out, kept on; her sister Chorist progressed significantly with age and she is worth the chance to build on this.

MADAME DEFARGE (IRE) wasn't disgraced, never in a position to challenge having missed the break; slowly into stride, waited with, pushed along 3f out, plugged on.

AUCTION (IRE) was below form over a trip she has yet to prove she stays; dropped out, brief headway over 2f out, switched over 1f out, no further impression.

MOMENT IN TIME (IRE) perhaps finds this trip on the sharp side nowadays, but this was disappointing regardless, failing to come on from her run at Haydock and has something to prove at present; mid-field, weakened over 2f out.

SINAADI (IRE) after 9 weeks off, was out of her depth; mid-division, struggling 3f out, gradually weakened.
