This has tended to be one of the lower-rated juvenile pattern races for colts in the autumn, not won by a horse that's gone on to success at an even higher level since Havana Gold in 2012, and although this was a competitive renewal there's probably no star amongst them; they didn't too go quick in front, a handy position something of an advantage, Sir Dancealot doing well against that bias, and the first 6 were covered by less than 5 lengths at the line.

LARCHMONT LAD (IRE) is improving all of the time and had probably learnt something from being involved in a tight finish at Doncaster earlier in the month, a tad sharper for that run perhaps too, and this was a likeable performance to gain a first pattern win on just his third start; tracked pace, shaken up around 2f out, responded well, proved determined; he's sure to stay 1m, though probably no further.

WHITECLIFFSOFDOVER (USA) ran well upped in grade, improving again, better with each start so far, and involvement in a race of this nature is sure to help with his development; prominent, led briefly approaching final 1f, edged left, rallied late on; he'll stay 1m and looks a big, scopey individual who should train on.

SIR DANCEALOT (IRE) was faced with his biggest test yet up in grade but more than coped with it, shaping well, arguably best in fact, as he came from a poor position in relation to the first 2 and deserves credit for even briefly getting upsides; dwelt, in rear, took strong hold, good progress out wide over 2f out, upsides briefly inside final 1f, no extra late on as he paid the price for a big move into contention; this proves that he's effective on turf and all-weather and he remains open to improvement.

BEST SOLUTION (IRE) was suited by the 1f longer trip and ran his best race so far, unlucky not to finish a bit closer too, sure to have challenged for a place with a clear run; in touch, chased leaders over 1f out, keeping on when hampered inside final 1f, finished with running left; he's bred to stay 1m.

LAW AND ORDER (IRE) improved his form up in grade, putting up a useful effort from the front, but had every chance and basically wasn't quite good enough; led, pushed along over 2f out, headed approaching final 1f, held when hampered inside final 1f, no extra; he remains unexposed and is bred to be suited by 1m.

ULTIMATE AVENUE (IRE) should find this aiding his development, seeming unsuited by the track on his first visit here, inexperience showing in the Dip, and he's worth another chance in this sort of grade; mid-division, raced freely, ran green under 2f out, faded and not knocked about; remains capable of better.

ESCOBAR (IRE) proved to be a disappointment but is clearly better than this, something perhaps not right on the day, and he's better judged on the positive impression of his wins; slowly into stride, raced wide, progress halfway, labouring over 1f out, weakened.

BEAR VALLEY (IRE) clearly wasn't 100% on the day; chased leaders, shuffled back over 2f out, beaten over 1f out.
