This didn't look a vintage renewal of the Rockfel beforehand, only 2 of the 7 having previously contested a Group race, but the pair that drew clear are horses to be positive about, both credited with running to a level approaching smart straight out of maiden company, Promising Run’s winning time comparing very favourably with the remainder of the card after the free-going Flying Empress ensured a sound gallop.

PROMISING RUN (USA) is a juvenile on a sharp upward curve and still far from the finished article, thus making her achievements to date all the more meritorious, the Fillies Mile - where a strong showing would be anticipated - an obvious opportunity to test her mettle at the highest level, the one caveat being the race could come soon enough 2 weeks hence, the step up to 1m not expected to be an issue - indeed it could be the catalyst for further improvement; chased leader, shaken up approaching 2f out, got a little unbalanced in the dip as she led approaching final 1f before regathering herself and staying on stoutly up the hill.

THETIS (IRE) made a big jump from victory in a Carlisle maiden, it saying something that her typically patient connections decided to pitch her in so deep so soon, hard to believe this will prove her limit, from a family that progresses with time/distance and one her trainer knows inside out; in touch, travelled well, came through to hold every chance over 1f out, kept on but found Promising Run too strong on the climb to the line.

HAWKSMOOR (IRE) is better than she could show here, her standard-setting win in the Prestige Stakes evidence of that, leaving the impression that 7f on drying ground wasn't enough of a test, never looking likely to claw back the length or so advantage she spotted the front pair, this a filly who will stay 1¼m next season; not quickest away and bumped start, held up, ridden over 2f out, headway over 1f out, kept on, never landed a blow.

FLYING EMPRESS ran well on form faced with a stiffish task, essentially not up to this level for all she went off hard enough in front; led, went with enthusiasm, headed approaching final 1f, faltered, wandering as she backed out of things.

GREAT PAGE (IRE) was dropping in grade having cut no ice in the Moyglare last time out, but she again ran below form; waited with, ridden 2f out, never on terms.

DOUBLY MOTIVATED (IRE) needed to take a significant step forward, her wide-margin Lingfield win not amounting to much, and couldn't do it, a bit disappointing for all it wasn't a bad run on form; in touch, weakened over 1f out; she's clearly thought capable of better.

JUSTICE ANGEL (IRE) finished last but ran well enough on form, essentially not good enough for all she was on the backfoot following a tardy start, not given a hard time; slowly into stride, in rear, shaken up over 1f out, made no impression.
