A small field, but plenty of interest, with 2 runners that had shaped very well in strong-looking handicaps at the recent Lockinge meeting at Newbury, pitted against an unexposed twice-raced pair; the race was somewhat tactical, the winner seen to best advantage, though he had to show battling qualities as well, and, all in all, deserves to be viewed positively, his win a first hopeful sign that the London Gold Cup form might work out as well as anticipated.

SPACE AGE (IRE) stepped up on reappearance run, as anticipated, given a good tactical ride, but having to show a very willing attitude to prevail as well; dictated, quickened over 2f out, strongly pressed over 1f out, found extra near finish; open to further improvement and will continue to give good account.

SUFFUSED over 2f longer trip, ran best race, with the potential for more to come; handy, strong challenge from over 1f out, gave best only close home; sure to go well again.

PETERHOF was strong in the market, down 1f in trip, but ran a bit below expectations, with signs that he is in danger of not fulfilling his potential, a bit edgy beforehand and not fully applying himself in the finish either; tracked pace, travelled well, effort 2f out, edged right, no extra inside final 1f; he remains with potential and is in a good yard to try and unlock it, though there is a question or 2 to answer for the time being.

GIANTOUCH (USA) more exposed than rest, ran respectably; slowly into stride, waited with, effort over 2f out, kept on, made little impression.

GENRES making handicap debut, ran creditably, simply his initial mark a stiff one; close up, weakened 2f out; may yet do better.
