seemingly had his limitations exposed in a busy 2-y-o campaign but improved to cause a bit of a surprise conceding weight all around back from 6 months off, partly explained by the longer trip suiting him, though the run of the race enabled by his greater professionalism was just as much a factor, well ridden from the front; dictated, kicked on 2f out, kept on well, unchallenged; he's in the Guineas but will find that a step too far, his best chance of further success lying at this kind of level.

has the look of a better 3-y-o and ran creditably after 7 months off without necessarily stepping up on form that saw him finish second to Elm Park in the Royal Lodge, as then racing a bit too keenly, likely to have benefited from a stronger gallop for all he was in theory best placed to lay down a challenge to the winner; chased leader, not settle fully, effort 2f out, kept on, at least looking more straightforward under pressure than was the case at times last season.

looked open to any amount of improvement after a wide-margin maiden win on his sole 2-y-o start and shaped encouragingly after 7 months in a race that just didn't go his way, caught further back than ideal and never able to get close to his well-ridden stable-companion, the late headway he made enough to suggest he's about the best prospect in the race, the support that saw him go off a short-priced favourite well worth noting; dwelt, in rear, shaken up 2f out, headway entering final 1f, ran on, never nearer.

wasn't disgraced in a race that maybe didn't go ideally but still had a fitness edge over most so might have been expected to fare a bit better, the smart form that he seemed to show when fifth in a muddling Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere last October still a standout on his record, some way short of the top bracket even if that effort can be believed; held up, headway under pressure approaching final 1f, carried head a bit awkwardly, one paced.

has the scope to make a better 3-y-o but failed to repeat the form that saw him finish third in a muddling Champagne Stakes back from 7 months off, hard to find excuses from a better position than most, though maybe 1m is further than he wants to go (essentially sprint bred); prominent, effort 2f out, not quicken, weakened final 1f.

probably just wasn't good enough up in grade, though in fairness the race didn't pan out ideally, unable to open up fully until late on, not that he was powering home once finally getting some room to manouevre; mid-division, shuffled back halfway, ridden 2f out, not quicken; he remains with a bit of potential.

is better than this but didn't do himself justice upped to a trip that should suit back from 7 months off, coltish beforehand and putting up little fight in the race; mid-division, took keen hold, shaken up over 2f out, weakened final 1f; he remains the type to click at some point but has some growing up to do first.

An unsatisfactory Craven in more than one respect, with a few of those with obvious potential failing to step up and the run of the race playing a big part, the winner going more or less unchallenged after his jockey was able to control things from the front; as such, it's not really a race to draw firm conclusions from other than to say it's altogether unlikely that the Guineas winner was in the field.
