A good-quality Group 3 despite the small field, the finish fought out by a pair of long-established smart types, Air Pilot doing quite well to run down Success Days who had the run of things, while US Army Ranger didn't lose much in defeat behind them and is still the most interesting looking ahead.

AIR PILOT had his optimum conditions and ran up to best to make a winning return after 8 months off, doing quite well to get the better of one who had an easy time in front; waited with, shaken up early in straight, chased leader inside final 1f, stayed on to lead near line; will remain competitive kept to this level.

SUCCESS DAYS (IRE) shaped as if retaining all ability, given every chance under a good front-running ride but finding one too strong in this race for the second year in a row; dictated, went on over 2f out, tackled well inside final 1f, headed near line, had the run of the race.

US ARMY RANGER (IRE) shaped as if better for the run after 6 months off, far from disgraced on return with bigger targets clearly ahead and he remains the type who could well come into his own this year, particularly back over 1½m; mid-field, ridden over 2f out, not quicken final 1f.

STELLAR MASS (IRE) easy to back, shaped as if needing the run after 6 months off; handy, pushed along early in straight, weakened over 1f out.

LUSTROUS LIGHT (IRE) shaped as if better for the run after 8 months off; held up, ridden when not clear run under 2f out, soon beaten but knocked about.
