A good-quality handicap for the track, though it was contested purely by Northern-trained horses and, in the wider scheme, most are probably summed up by their marks; it was well run and a fair result.

HAYADH was 4 lb lower than when successful at Wolverhampton earlier in the year and, benefiting from the return to further, pulled it out of the fire in the final stride; mid-field, ridden over 2f out, headway under pressure approaching final 1f, stayed on to lead post.

MUNTADAB (IRE) bounced back to best as he narrowly failed to win this race for the second consecutive season, going down all guns blazing at a track which suits his front-running style; made running, tackled over 2f out, kept on well, headed post.

AL ERAYG (IRE) had been dropped 4 lb since his previous outing and was ack to the sort of form he'd shown on his British debut; held up, headway under pressure over 1f out, stayed on; time is knocking on for him this turf season, but he's the type his yard will do well with in 2019.

THREE SAINTS BAY (IRE) put a poor effort behind him back on turf but the evidence is mounting that his mark now sums him up; close up, travelled fluently, challenged over 2f out, no extra final 100 yds.

ORIENTAL LILLY was 5 lb out of the handicap and ran up to her best, performing in typical fashion and briefly threatening to get even more involved approaching the final 1f; raced well off the pace, under 2f out, no extra final 100 yds.

AIR RAID gelded since and the recipient of a breathing operation since previous outing 12 weeks earlier, had every chance and wasn't far below his best from what still seems a stiff mark; tracked pace, ridden over 2f out, faded final 1f.

ROUSAYAN (IRE) is proving more miss than hit this season; held up, ridden under 3f out, never a threat.
