arrived on the back of a maiden win but this still goes down as a much-improved display in defying a seemingly high opening mark, albeit in a race that rather fell apart behind him; soon led, jumped fluently, travelled fluently, quickened early in straight, ridden after 2 out, kept on well, eased dying strides; life promises to be tougher next time.

showed he's still capable of a useful level of form returning from 21 months off, though given his age and length of absence he wouldn't be sure to build on this, particularly as he didn't run any better than this even during regular campaigning in 2012/13; in touch, travelled fluently, close up circuit out, chased leader straight, stuck to task, pulled clear of remainder.

back over hurdles, again shaped better than the bare result, not that his challenge came to all it promised (has finished weakly before); dropped out, smooth headway after 4 out, in contention home turn, shaken up entering straight, effort flattened out.

fared little better than first time back after another 9 weeks off, despite his yard going much better now, the sharp nature of the track possibly not ideal (galloping type) but hardly sufficient excuse; raced off the pace, outpaced from 4 out, rallied briefly end of back straight, no response from home turn; questions to answer now.

kept to hurdles, was beaten by more than lack of stamina upped in trip after 12 weeks off, running poorly even by his lower standards in this sphere, labouring in the back straight and never on terms.

has an all-or-nothing record this season, running miserably this time, to the extent his temperament must come into question; pressed leader, lost place over circuit out, never going well/looking keen after and labouring badly before 5 out.

All 7 ran. Hurdles: 12.

Winning Owner: Tudor Street Partnership

Time: 6m 3.7s Closing Sectional: (2.42f): 38.5s (95.3%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 110%, Betfair SP 100.8%

The winner is going the right way but the fact a long-absent 11-y-o came clear of the rest in a race that saw 3 run badly hardly speaks well of the form, a low view best advised.

BRANDON HILL (IRE) arrived on the back of a maiden win but this still goes down as a much-improved display in defying a seemingly high opening mark, albeit in a race that rather fell apart behind him; soon led, jumped fluently, travelled fluently, quickened early in straight, ridden after 2 out, kept on well, eased dying strides; life promises to be tougher next time.

KINGSMERE back over hurdles, again shaped better than the bare result, not that his challenge came to all it promised (has finished weakly before); dropped out, smooth headway after 4 out, in contention home turn, shaken up entering straight, effort flattened out.

MASTERFUL ACT (USA) shaped as if still in form until failing to stay the longer trip; pressed leader, travelled fluently, shaken up approaching straight, weakened 3 out.
