is better than ever in next to no time with Richard Fahey and put up another decidedly smart effort to follow up his recent handicap win, stepping back up to 6f no issue at all; mid-division, chased leaders under 2f out, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, ridden out; he's in the Duke of York and will be well worth his place in a pattern race on turf next.

back on all-weather, proved at least as good as ever, doing everything right under a positive ride (burned off the other pace-setter) and finding only one too good; disputed lead, went with zest, led 3f out, effort over 1f out, headed final 100 yds, kept on.

ran right up to his rating back out of handicap company, as expected having no problem going back to 6f; mid-division, shaken up out wide 2f out, chased leaders approaching final 1f, ran on; the jury is out as to whether he can prove as good away from all-weather, though he's only had one turf start for this yard, that in a listed race.

who sweated up, disappointed on the all-weather for just about the first time in his life for no clear-cut reason, seemingly in a perfect position turning for home but packing no punch off the bridle; prominent, every chance over 1f out, faded inside final 1f; his 3 turf outings in 2016 were poor, but he does have some smart form on grass to his name.

The fourth running of this valuable prize and it was a third win in the race for Richard Fahey, for whom Kimberella showed smart form every bit as good as that managed by his other winner Alben Star; the pace became sound after a furlong or so but by that time the hold-up horses were already out of their ground and nothing from behind made an impact.

KIMBERELLA is better than ever in next to no time with Richard Fahey and put up another decidedly smart effort to follow up his recent handicap win, stepping back up to 6f no issue at all; mid-division, chased leaders under 2f out, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, ridden out; he's in the Duke of York and will be well worth his place in a pattern race on turf next.

MYTHMAKER after 10 weeks off, probably remains in form but failed to repeat his last effort in a race he couldn't dominate like he had that one; broke fast (anticipated start slightly), helped force pace, headed halfway, effort 2f out, not quicken.

REALIZE probably remains in form but wasn't quite enough back at 6f, especially trying to come from out the back; held up, effort out wide 2f out, never landed a blow.

SIGN OF THE KODIAC (IRE) wasn't disgraced, just not good enough in smart company; in touch, took keen hold, effort under 2f out, not quicken.

BOOM THE GROOM (IRE) is better judged on previous form; held up, not settle fully, effort out wide 2f out, made little impression, not well placed.

ROYAL BIRTH back up in trip, failed to repeat last effort but wasn't well placed and also had a rough passage; awkward leaving stalls, raced off the pace, met some trouble over 2f out, effort soon after, made no impression.

PRETEND (IRE) who won this in 2014, was well held, not well placed but never threatening to deploy the turn of foot that's seen him overcome poor positions in the past; slowly into stride, dropped out, shaken up 2f out, never involved.

VERNE CASTLE ran even worse but a hold-up ride over 6f is no good to him and he remains better judged on what he did early in the year; dropped out, not settle fully, never involved.
