was backed at long odds on first chase start in Britain and justified the support with a career-best effort, probably a better chaser than hurdler (both wins in France also came over fences); held up, travelled strongly, not fluent fifth, good progress 4 out, jumped on 3 out, driven out; had plenty of racing for previous yard but is still young and possible he'll improve some more for new stable.

was fitter for reappearance and returned to form despite not jumping as well as he can; tracked pace, mistakes sixth, seventh, led 4 out, headed next, one paced; should remain competitive from what is a fair mark (unlikely to go up much for this).

goes well fresh, hence the support for him in the betting, and although he didn't justify that this was a creditable effort after 12 months off; tracked pace, effort after 4 out, one paced from next; he doesn't stand much racing these days, though.

hails from a stable in form but has tended to come on for reappearance in the past and shaped as if better for run after 8 months off; disputed lead, typically took strong hold, shaken up after 4 out, in contention still 3 out, weakened.

A reasonably competitive race despite the small field and a fairly positive view can be taken, Kings Cross improving on just his third British outing and beating the first 2 in the betting who both ran their race.

KINGS CROSS (FR) was backed at long odds on first chase start in Britain and justified the support with a career-best effort, probably a better chaser than hurdler (both wins in France also came over fences); held up, travelled strongly, not fluent fifth, good progress 4 out, jumped on 3 out, driven out; had plenty of racing for previous yard but is still young and possible he'll improve some more for new stable.

SAINT RAPH (FR) was fitter for reappearance and returned to form despite not jumping as well as he can; tracked pace, mistakes sixth, seventh, led 4 out, headed next, one paced; should remain competitive from what is a fair mark (unlikely to go up much for this).

LISTEN BOY (IRE) goes well fresh, hence the support for him in the betting, and although he didn't justify that this was a creditable effort after 12 months off; tracked pace, effort after 4 out, one paced from next; he doesn't stand much racing these days, though.

WESTWARD POINT hails from a stable in form but has tended to come on for reappearance in the past and shaped as if better for run after 8 months off; disputed lead, typically took strong hold, shaken up after 4 out, in contention still 3 out, weakened.

NOBLE LEGEND ran poorly after 7 months off, should be sharper for the run though; disputed lead, lost place eighth, labouring badly soon after, behind from tenth.

ATLANTIC ROLLER (IRE) was well held on first outing since leaving Paul Nicholls after 6 months off; in touch, tracked pace fifth, weakened 4 out.
