Not a strong handicap for the grade, most below form on the day, and the first 2 pulled well clear, the winner fairly treated after a spell in the doldrums; Ivor's King went off hard, the race a real test in the conditions.

SIMPLY WINGS (IRE) hadn't gone with much promise at all on reappearance but, having attracted support, bounced back to form to take advantage of a drop in the weights; close up, travelled well, disputed lead eighth, went on 5 out, challenged 3 out, responded well; will remain with some handicapping scope once reassessed but needs to prove that he can back this up.

UMBERTO D'OLIVATE (FR) well backed, didn't go with much fluency but ended up running well on form; mid-field, pushed along early final circuit, headway under pressure 4 out, every chance 2 out, stuck to task; well worth a try at 3m and/or in some form of headgear.

PADDY THE STOUT (IRE) was hardly foot perfect but shaped better than distance beaten suggests, 2½m on ground this testing too much for him; in rear, made mistakes, smooth headway from 4 out, shaken up after next, found little; will benefit from return to around 2m.

TOLKEINS TANGO (IRE) ran below form, more to it than simply the 10 lb rise for his Chepstow win, though that obviously makes life tougher; mid-field, ridden when mistake tenth, struggling soon after.

UHLAN BUTE (FR) showed bit more than first time up in this sphere but ultimately finished well held; raced off the pace, jumped better than last time, ridden 4 out, left behind soon after.

BINCOMBE ran no sort of race (reportedly lost a shoe); close up, disputed lead eighth, ridden 4 out, soon beaten.

IVOR'S KING (IRE) is best not judged too harshly on this run after 14 months off, going off too hard, though he did drop out of things rather alarmingly even so; raced clear, reduced advantage seventh, headed next, stopped quickly.
