produced a career best, seeming to benefit from a much more positive ride than usual; pressed leader, jumped better than has often been the case, slow sixth, upsides eleventh, went on after next, responded well; he's useful when he puts it all together, but the chances are he'll be badly handcapped in the wider scheme when reassessed for this.

ended up running creditably but it was laboured stuff, easy to see why cheekpieces were back on, doubts and a bit of a concern as to how much longer he's going to hold his form for; in touch, went in snatches, labouring early final circuit, behind after 5 out, stayed on again latter stages.

ended up running creditably but only because things got muddling late in the day, not necessarily back at the peak of his game on this evidence; forced pace, joined eleventh, lost place 4 out, stayed on again late on.

went like the best horse at the weights for the most part only to find disappointingly little off the bridle, all in all his performance rather difficult to weigh up, the one thing we do know for sure being that he's still to produce his best this season; in touch, travelled strongly, not fluent eighth, chased leader from 3 out, shaken up after 2 out, found little.

shaped as if back in form for a long way only for his effort to peter out for some reason; dropped out, travelled better than most, headway after 4 out, chased leaders approaching 2 out, not sustain effort.

On paper this was a useful handicap, but it ended up being less competitive than seemed likely, a few of the more obvious candidates apparently not at their best; it was at least a well-run affair, Fine Rightly moving best for a long way before folding, the placed horses closing up again late after looking sure to be well beaten early in the straight.

BERNARDELLI (IRE) produced a career best, seeming to benefit from a much more positive ride than usual; pressed leader, jumped better than has often been the case, slow sixth, upsides eleventh, went on after next, responded well; he's useful when he puts it all together, but the chances are he'll be badly handcapped in the wider scheme when reassessed for this.
