There are stronger, better-quality valuable handicap chases around than this but with 19 lining up it was competitive enough, even with some disappointments, and a fairly positive view can be taken of the principals, 2 of the first 3 novices, whilst Frontier Spirit in fourth is a well-handicapped older horse; the pace was sound, though most of those held up failed to land a serious blow, whilst a couple of fallers - Wood Yer at the fifth and Tiptoeaway 3 out - did cause interference to some.

STREAMS OF WHISKEY (IRE) had threatened plenty off this sort of mark only to fall a couple of times earlier in the season and bounced back from a couple of below-par performances with his best effort to date to land this valuable prize; raced wide, mid-division, went with zest, went prominent before twelfth, driven after 3 out, found plenty to lead close home; has had a rather stop-start campaign, yet still going the right way and may do even better next season, only a 7-y-o with a handful of chase starts to his name.

FOREST WALKER (IRE) returned from 10 weeks off with his stable in much better form than it was when he was last seen and ran his best race so far; waited with, travelled better than most, good progress between 5 out and 4 out, chased leaders 3 out, led briefly run-in, headed close home.

HOLLOW BLUE SKY (FR) again ran well from 8 lb higher than when winning at Huntingdon in February, progressing gradually, and he'd probably have won if he'd either got to the front a bit later or knuckled down fully after taking it up; in touch, not fluent 5 out, not clear run home turn, headway when mistake 4 out, went handy next, led between last 2, wandered around and looked idle, headed final 100 yards, one paced; seems to have a slightly quirky side but it won't be a surprise if he continues his steady improvement into next season.

FRONTIER SPIRIT (IRE) has slipped a long way in the weights and ran one of his better races of what has been a disappointing season overall, the drop back from 3m in his favour (best at short of that trip); close up, travelled better than usual, led after 5 out, headed between last 2, one paced, had every chance.

SAINTS AND SINNERS (IRE) in first-time tongue strap, failed to justify market support but wasn't disgraced in a much more competitive race than others he's eligible for; chased leaders, ridden after 5 out, held before 2 out, plugged on; not one to be dismissing.

MIDNIGHT SAIL was probably seen to very best effect in a race that rather fell apart last time and, although not disgraced, he couldn't repeat that effort here; chased leaders, hit 5 out, also hit 2 out and then faded; likely to remain vulnerable to less exposed rivals.

LOST LEGEND (IRE) ran respectably without ever threatening and the handicapper looks in control; mid-field, hampered fifth, driven 4 out, jumped left last 2, kept on.

ULTIMATUM DU ROY (FR) has contested only small-field races since arriving from France and could never get into this; in rear, ridden before 5 out, not fluent there, stayed on from 3 out but was merely passing beaten horses.

CLOUDY BOB (IRE) ran one of lesser races in a more competitive affair than most he contests; disputed lead, lost place between 5 out and 4 out, held when mistake 3 out.

KING MASSINI (IRE) is best excused this run; mid-division, bad mistake twelfth, looked held but was keeping on when hampered 3 out, not knocked about after.

MUNSAAB (IRE) wasn't in same form as last time; chased leaders, lost place after 5 out, already beaten when badly hampered 3 out.

SPECIAL ACCOUNT (IRE) ran poorly on the back of a fortunate win; dropped out, struggling 5 out, made no impression.

ELENIKA (FR) has gone off the boil; raced off the pace, never travelling well, beaten long way out; may benefit from break.

SUNNY LEDGEND back over fences, ran no sort of race; raced off the pace, jumped poorly, always behind; something to prove at present.

WOOD YER (IRE) in first-time blinkers and usual tongue strap, failed to complete; chased leaders, fell heavily fifth.

TIPTOEAWAY (IRE) in first-time tongue strap, hinted at a revival before coming to grief; disputed lead, went with enthusiasm, headed after 5 out, still close up in third when fell 3 out, beginning to weaken at the time but still set to fare better than he has been; this could send him the wrong way again, however.

VIF ARGENT (FR) was below form; chased leaders, blundered first, beaten when fell 3 out.

BINCOMBE disappointed in a much more competitive race than those he's been winning; held up, struggling 5 out, never landed a blow.

SHANGANI (USA) produced a laboured effort after a long season, not the first one from his stable to have run this way recently; off the bridle before most, always behind.
