AIR PILOT boasts a good record fresh and made a winning return from 6 months off, overcoming a steady gallop to run down some younger legs; stumbled start, tracked pace, outpaced over 2f out, rallied approaching final 1f, carried right, stayed on to lead last ½f, ridden out; the Newmarket listed race he's finished second in for the last 2 years may well be on the cards again.

QARASU (IRE) was strong in the betting, sent off favourite in spite of the task he faced at the weights, and ran really well, a career best; raced off the pace, headway over 4f out to chase leaders, every chance over 1f out, bumped soon after and carried right, kept on; connections are plainly keen to keep him to ground softer than good, which does limit his options somewhat longer term, his handicap mark also likely to take a hit after this, but there is potential for him to pull out a bit more still, particularly with 1½m yet to be explored.

ILLUMINED (IRE) ran well up in grade, improving a chunk, looking the most likely winner when moving to the lead but letting herself down a bit under pressure; in touch, took keen hold, headway approaching 2f out, led over 1f out, hung badly right final 1f, headed last ½f, one paced; this was the sternest test of her still young career, more ability still to be unlocked on this evidence if she proves more tractable.

GETCHAGETCHAGETCHA ran creditably on form faced with a stiff task after 3 months off, though never threatened and didn't look the easiest of rides, either; in touch, struggling over 2f out, hung right, plugged on.

ELWAZIR shaped as if still in good form up to a point, on the most tesing ground he's encountered, though the interference he met only hastened his demise; led, travelled fluently, headed over 1f out, just starting to weaken when badly hampered soon after, not recover; he's probably worth dropping in grade, likely to be of some interest if given a go in a big-field handicap, that scenario likely to suit.

NYALETI (IRE) underperformed, excuses difficult to come by given that she has form on similarly testing ground; close up, took keen hold, weakened under 2f out; this year has largely been a struggle for her.
