A significantly boosted prize fund drew a strong field for the grade, though it didn't quite add up to the sum of its parts, the winner not having to be at his best, with the runner-up leaving the impression his big run last time had taken the edge off him; the gallop set by Toormore was sound, though.

TOORMORE (IRE) made most of what turned out to be a good opportunity, down a grade, but also helped by his main rival failing to fire, always controlling the race, not required to show his best form to prevail; led, travelled well, quickened over 2f out, kept on well final 1f: this confirms he's still effective at this shorter trip, but he's likely to be back in top-level company next time and will probably continue to just come up short in that grade.

DUTCH CONNECTION left the impression his run last time, 16 days ago, had just taken the edge off him, that a more plausible reason for this slightly laboured, albeit ultimately respectable effort, than the drop back to 7f, taking a while to pick up and unable to land a blow as a consequence; in touch, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken over 1f out, kept on well inside final 1f; type to bounce back soon, especially if returned to ground firmer than good (seems well suited by such a surface).

SAFETY CHECK (IRE) with a 4-lb penalty for his Grade 2 successes at Meydan, ran creditably after 5 months off, confirming the improvement shown there in the winter; held up, effort over 2f out, not quicken, kept on inside final 1f; entered in the Park Stakes at Doncaster, which would be a suitable target, though, interestingly, also in the Sprint Cup, not having run at 6f since his debut.

CODE RED confirmed Epsom improvement at the second attempt, and in a stronger race run at a sound gallop, only losing second very late on; close up, ridden over 2f out, challenged over 1f out, no extra well inside final 1f.

ASCRIPTION (IRE) ran respectably after 9 weeks off, though didn't fully deliver all that the way he travelled promised; held up, travelled well, headway 2f out, ridden over 1f out, edged right, not quicken inside final 1f.

AEOLUS back up in trip, wasn't disgraced, though he had little chance under such exaggerated tactics in this company and may yet do better for this yard, probably back at 6f and with a proper pace to run off; in rear, effort over 2f out, kept on, made no impression.

TUPI (IRE) had a bit to find with the runner-up on their earlier running but was still well below form, possibly needing firmer ground to be seen at his best; handy, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken over 1f out, eased final 1f.
