This card in general and this race in particular deserved rather better support than it got for the prize money on offer, but a trio of useful fillies still lined up for a vaulable minor event, the fourth intended runner withdrawn after playing up in the preliminaries, the race inevitably relatively tactical, the winner right back on track in calmer waters after her mishap at Goodwood.

EIRENE faced her easiest task of the campaign and got right back on track, taking well to the surface at the first attempt as well; held up, travelled well, headway over 2f out, led over 1f out, in command final 100 yds, won readily; she holds entries in the Park Stakes and Ayr Gold Cup, both assignments likely to require quite a bit better still to be successful.

HELLS BABE after 13 weeks off, took a step forward on a rare outing on the all-weather, running as well as could be expected; led, quickened over 2f out, headed over 1f out, not quicken final 100 yds.

ROCK ON BAILEYS ran a lot better than she had at Pontefract, this a simpler task, though she again failed to beat a rival, running below the level she managed earlier in the summer; tracked pace, ridden straight, every chance over 1f out, no extra final 100 yds.
