took advantage of drop in weights, his mark 8 lb lower than the one off which he won this race last year; close up, ridden when hung left over 1f out, led entering final 1f, stayed on; he'll remain well treated on old form but this wasn't much of a race and he'll be opposable in something next time, not least as his tendency to hang is seemingly ingrained.

back on turf, returned to form despite doing a fair bit wrong, though maybe that doesn't say much for the competitiveness of this race; very slowly away, held up, headway entering final 1f, stayed on; remains to be seen if able to back this up.

wasn't in same form as when winning here last time, admittedly meeting some trouble but hardly looking the winner at the time; close up, effort under 2f out, short of room approaching final 1f, not quicken.

wouldn't have won but shaped better than finishing a long last suggests; led until under 2f out, looked held when hampered inside final 1f, not recover.

None appealed as notably well treated beforehand and only 2 of the 5 ran close to their best in a handicap with the look of weak form; the pace was steady for a sprint.
