was a different proposition with a change of tactics and away from bad ground, having too much speed for his rivals after 3 out, his jumping an asset as well, a tendency to stargaze not costing him on this occasion; dictated, jumped well in main, quickened 3 out, ridden after next, found extra.

was ridden much more patiently than had been the case at Newbury and that probably didn't show him to best advantage, for all that this was an advance in form terms; held up, travelled well, headway 3 out, not quicken straight, stayed on after last, no impression on winner; will stay beyond 17f; open to further improvement.

kept to Grade 2 company, ran at least as well as he had in the Sharp at Cheltenham, needing no excuses in a race which played to his strengths; handy, travelled well, ridden straight, challenged between last 2, one paced.

didn't improve to quite the extent expected from his promising hurdling debut, not asked to lead this time and a bit short of pace when it came to the crunch, still early days and remaining with potential for better; tracked pace, travelled well, outpaced before 2 out.

failed to meet expectations, just seeming not in the same form, the first niggled along and making the odd mistake before no inroads in the latter stages, his strength at the finish a feature of all 3 wins.

wasn't up to the task against some very promising sorts; in touch, ridden 3 out, left behind straight.

A Grade 2 novice featuring some potentially useful sorts, though one or 2 weren't seen to best advantage, lacking the speed for the test off a relatively steady pace, though it would be wrong not to give due credit to the winner, who clearly wasn't seen to advantage last time, his performance not in the same class as Yanworth's in this last season, but of a similar standard to other recent winners.

CAPITAINE (FR) was a different proposition with a change of tactics and away from bad ground, having too much speed for his rivals after 3 out, his jumping an asset as well, a tendency to stargaze not costing him on this occasion; dictated, jumped well in main, quickened 3 out, ridden after next, found extra.

KEEP IN LINE (GER) kept to Grade 2 company, ran at least as well as he had in the Sharp at Cheltenham, needing no excuses in a race which played to his strengths; handy, travelled well, ridden straight, challenged between last 2, one paced.
