2 Feb 19 Leo Grade 1 pu/5 Chase G1 17f Good Robbie Power 14/115 20.01 -/15 98.8
a top-class chaser in his pomp, his 3 Grade 1 wins including the 2017 edition of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, suffered an unfortunate end, breaking down badly before he had even reached the first fence.
27 Dec 18 Kem C1 Grade 2 3/5 24 Chase G2 16f Good Noel Fehily 8/19 22.37 -/11.5 1kj 101.7 122 135+ 135+
was bidding for a third win in this race, and he went with a lot of zest, but even in his prime he'd have struggled to lay a glove on the winner and was simply swept aside in the straight, losing second to one ridden for that position; led, jumped boldly, headed 3 out, lost second next, no extra.
9 Dec 18 Cor Grade 2 3/8 20.5 Chase G2 16.7f Heavy B. J. Cooper 8/19 13.91 -/2.5 2pj 107.6 129+ 129+
might have needed the run after 8 months off, but essentially isn't the force of old (without a win since 2017 Queen Mother Champion Chase); jumped well in main, typically took strong hold, left clear second, reduced advantage end of back straight, headed soon after 4 out, no extra from 2 out (untidy there), finished tired.

no match for Altior when second in last season's renewal, has shown signs of decline this season, even if a campaign spent on soft ground hasn't been ideal; close up, left in front eighth, headed soon after 3 out, no extra before last.
14 Mar 18 Chl C1 Grade 1 pu/9 Chase G1 15.9f Soft Noel Fehily 25/126 48.32 -/30 1 102.5 ?
had won this 12 months previously, but with Douvan flopping that was a much weaker renewal than this one and he was well beaten when his rider drew stumps; led, clear briefly fourth, mistake fifth, headed eighth, hampered tenth, slow 3 out, pulled up straight.
3 Feb 18 Leo Grade 2 3/7 12 Chase G2 17f Soft Robbie Power 12/113 19 -/4.5 1pj 97.2 150 152+ 152+
easy to back, wasn't disgraced under ground conditions which don't play to his strengths; soon well clear, jumped boldly, typically raced freely, reduced advantage 2 out, headed approaching last, soon done with (lost second close home); likely to perform much closer to his best when defending his Champion Chase crown back at Cheltenham next month, though minor honours are probably the best he can hope for this time (also third in both 2015 and 2016).
27 Dec 17 Kem C1 Grade 2 F/4 Chase G2 16f Soft Noel Fehily 3/14 4.3 -/3.75 1x 87.9 +
twice a winner of this race, departed too far out to say what would have happened, though he was shaping as if back to form, giving the favourite plenty to think about before a rare jumping lapse, this just his second fall or unseat over fences; led, jumped left but fluently, still going well when fell eighth.
19 Nov 17 Chl C1 Grade 2 3/5 8 Chase G2 15.9f Soft Noel Fehily 8/19 10.14 -/8.8 1kj 96.8 146 152+ 152+
almost certainly needed the run after 7 months off and shaped well in that context (lasted longer than in 2016 renewal); soon well clear, jumped well in main, typically travelled well, headed approaching home turn, left behind by winner soon after, lost second dying strides; he's a top-class 2m chaser, though he'll probably struggle to confirm his 2017 Queen Mother-winning form with Fox Norton (a narrow second that day) ever again, let alone prove a match for top-notchers such as Altior and Douvan when they're on song.

probably wasn't quite at his best, though, in truth, there was little he could have done to have resisted the winner, simply outclassed; led, jumped well, travelled well, pressed on 3 out, headed between last 2, no match for winner.
15 Mar 17 Chl C Grade 1 1/10 0.1 Chase G1 15.9f Good Noel Fehily 11/112 41.49 48/- 1kj 97.6 141 163 163
scotched any suggestion that he's a waning force as he made it fourth time lucky in a race in which he'd finished third in both 2015 and 2016, a perrformance on a par with the one which saw him chase home Sprinter Sacre and Un de Sceaux last year good enough this time around in a race weakened by Douvan's failure to deliver, and while inevitably much of the post-race analysis will focus on that, Special Tiara was a worthy winner among those that showed their form; disputing the lead from the off, he pressed on before the fifth, continued to jump boldly in a front and held on gamely having jumped the last 2 lengths clear; Sandown and Punchestown are his 2 options for the rest of the season and a reproduction of this will obviously make him a major contender for one or both of those, though there's a fair chance that those races will take a bit more winning than this one did, if the likes of Un de Sceaux, a back-in-form Douvan or even Altior show up.

was below form and is showing clear signs of not being quite the force he was; led until tenth, weakened after 3 out.
27 Dec 16 Kem C1 Grade 2 1/4 0.5 Chase G2 16f Good Noel Fehily 8/111.72f 1.82 2.78/- 1r 99.8 149 154+ 154+
was favoured by the race conditions, getting weight from his rivals, and made heavy weather of landing the odds, his willing attitude getting him home, his task having been made easier by the early departure of the second favourite, questions now as to whether he's quite as good as he was; led, ridden after 4 out, challenged straight, found extra.
13 Nov 16 Chl C1 Grade 2 3/8 18 Chase G2 15.9f Soft Noel Fehily 2/13f 3.2 -/2.72 1 94.3 121 136+ 136+
shaped as if needing the run after 7 months off, despite being well backed, spurning what had looked a good opportunity, very much favoured by the weights on the best of last season's form; led until before 2 out, no extra, not persevered with once held; he ran Sire de Grugy close in the Tingle Creek last season and will presumably head to Sandown next.

disappointed 6 weeks on from producing one of his best ever runs at Cheltenham; raced clear, went freely and not always fluent, jumped left third, reduced advantage fifth, headed 2 out, weakened.
16 Mar 16 Chl C Grade 1 3/10 3.52 Chase G1 15.9f Good Noel Fehily 16/117 31 -/11 1 95.3 164 165? 165?
ran a cracker after 3 months off, finishing third in this race for the second year running, that despite again doing plenty in front, and there'll be races at this level another time when his trademark trailblazing tactics will be that much easier to pull off, starting in the Celebration Chase at Sandown he won last year on the back of another third in this; made running, pecked third, headed after 4 out, effort before 2 out, kept on.

was all the better for his reappearance and returned to his best over a track that shows him to best advantage, a shade unlucky, in that he was rallying when broadsided at the last, losing more ground than he was beaten by and arguable that he might have won but for that, though the winner would have found plenty when challenged; led, not fluent seventh, headed ninth, not quicken 3 out, rallied well between last 2, badly hampered last, held final 50 yds; he won a substandard Desert Orchid last season and that race or the Clarence House may be an option for him next.
8 Nov 15 Nav Grade 2 4/6 49.5 Chase G2 16f Heavy Barry Geraghty 11/43.75f 4.27 -/3.75 1 92.5 78 99? 99?
who ended the last campaign with success in a Grade 1 at Sandown, clearly wasn't 100% returning from 7 months off; led, joined after third, headed when untidy 5 out, soon beaten.

25 Apr 15 San C1 Grade 1 1/7 6 Chase G1 16f Good Noel Fehily 3/14f 4.3 6.6/- 1jr 88.7 165 165
has been one of the main beneficiaries of a less-than-stellar division this season and put the once-outstanding runner-up in his place as he went 2 places better than in the Champion Chase, reversing placings from Cheltenham with a below-par Somersby but perhaps narrowly the better horse nowadays anyway, certainly much improved generally on his last 3 starts, all his qualities on show under a more controlled ride; jumped soundly in main, led until slow third, disputed lead again sixth, went on entering straight, in command 2 out and responded well; Un de Sceaux awaits next season, however.
11 Mar 15 Chl C Grade 1 3/9 3 Chase G1 16f Good Noel Fehily 18/119 20.98 -/3.1 1 93.7 157+ 157+
was better than ever when accounting for Balder Succes at Kempton 11 weeks ago and produced another career best to be placed in an open Grade 1 for the first time, arguably worth some extra credit given he was responsible for the fairly strong pace, but he does seem ideally suited by aggressive tactics; forced pace and was clear by the fourth, reduced advantage seventh, joined after 3 out, headed next, kept on.

27 Dec 14 Kem C1 Grade 2 1/5 2.25 Chase G2 16f Soft Barry Geraghty 5/16 7.52 11.5/- 1kj 164+ 164+
made most of good opportunity, under an attacking ride designed to expose the frailties of his opponents, unlikely to have had to improve on the best of his form; raced clear, jumped boldly, went with enthusiasm, mistake 3 out, ridden after, held on gamely; clearly likely to be vulnerable wherever he goes next.
9 Nov 14 Nav Grade 2 4/7 11 Chase G2 16f Gd/Sft B. Hayes 5/16 6.4 -/5.2 1j 138 138
had an excuse for his blip at Ballinrobe (reportedly scoped dirty) and this was a step back in right direction; made running, jumped well in main, headed after 3 out, no extra; best at bare 2m, the Hilly Way at Cork should play to his strengths, but may well have to contend with the winner again there.

26 Aug 14 Bal Stks 3/5 11 Chase W 17f Gd/Frm A. E. Lynch 4/51.8f 1.87 -/1.38 1 115+ 115+
back over fences, proved to be a disappointment; made running, joined before 2 out, weakening when blundered last; he reportedly scoped dirty post race.
4 Aug 14 Cor Hcap (81-123) 5/9 22 Hurdle 116 16f Good (h) Andrew J. McNamara 4/61.66f 1.84 -/1.71 2p 95+ 95+
who had run well on Flat recently, back over hurdles for first time over 2 years, is much lower in weights in this sphere but proved to be most disappointing in much less esteemed company than he normally keeps over the larger obstacles (last seen finishing third behind Sire De Grugy); handy, raced freely, ridden when not fluent 3 out and 2 out, no extra (albeit not knocked about).
16 Jul 14 Kil Mdn Stks 2/11 1.75 Turf M 14f Gd/Frm (h) Declan McDonogh 4/15 6.59 -/3.1 1s 83 83
, a very smart chaser, in first-time hood, showed fairly useful form on his first try in this sphere; slowly into stride, soon led, headed 1f out, kept on; well up to winning similar event should connections decide to persevere with him in this sphere.

26 Apr 14 San C1 Grade 1 3/6 4.75 Chase G1 16f Gd/Sft A. E. Lynch 7/18 9.8 -/6 1k 152 152
ran creditably, just not easy to place this season after his Grade 1 win as a novice; led, travelled well, headed 3 out, not fluent next, kept on.
12 Mar 14 Chl C Grade 1 6/11 15.5 Chase G1 16f Gd/Frm Davy Russell 16/117 23.72 -/8.8 1f 102.5 142+ 142+
ran as well as entitled to in the face of a stiff task, close to matching his previous best and worth some extra credit considering he was responsible for the strong gallop; forced pace, blundered fourth, headed sixth, led again after 4 out, headed before next, weakened, went off too hard.
2 Feb 14 Pun Grade 2 4/4 28 Chase G2 16f Heavy Davy Russell 10/111 14.02 -/9.2 1j 130 130

17 Nov 13 Chl C1 Listed 3/7 6 Chase L 16f Gd/Sft Noel Fehily 7/18 8.6 -/4 1j 152+ 152+
was effectively on just his second start since the Maghull and fully confirmed the merit of that performance, plenty to like about his exuberant effort all told; led, jumped boldly, headed before 2 out, not quicken; won't be easy to place, with a Grade 1 penalty, but has the possibility of further improvement back on a flatter track or when stepped up in trip, and he should continue to give a good account, away from the mud at least.
28 Oct 13 Naa Grade 3 ur/6 Chase G3 16f Gd/Sft B. J. Cooper 7/18 9.98 -/8.4 1x +

shaped better than the bare result and did plenty to suggest his Aintree form won't prove to flatter him overly in the long term, simply paying for a vain attempt to break Arvika Ligeonniere from the front; forced pace, typically jumped well, headed 4 out, faded from next, did too much too soon; his excellent jumping will continue to prove an asset moving forward and he's well worth another chance.
6 Apr 13 Ain C Grade 1 1/6 1.75 Chase G1 16f Gd/Sft B. J. Cooper 28/129 41.24 450/- 2jR 157? 157?
hadn't threatened this kind of performance even if better for that recent run in Ireland and caused a big surprise, much improved as he produced a smart effort all of a sudden; led until before fifth, jumped well, outpaced between 3 out and 2 out, found plenty to lead again final 50 yards, displaying a willing attitude; the fact that Overturn pressed on some way out did suit him, making the race a relative stamina test, and Special Tiara is sure to stay at least 2½m.
3 Mar 13 Leo Novice 5/6 26 Chase N 17f Soft A. E. Lynch 10/111 15 -/8 1j 114+ 114+

ran well upped in grade, already better chaser; jumped well, led fourth, tackled 2 out, held when untidy last, no match for winner.
24 Sep 12 Bal Stks 1/14 1 Chase W 17f Soft Phillip Enright 9/25.5 6 16.5/- 1kx 116+ 116+
winning hurdler, subject of market support, on chasing debut, got off the mark in this sphere at the first attempt; led, bad mistake third, led again fifth, ridden approaching 2 out, kept going well; can defy a penalty in this sphere; open to improvement.
