Flat trainer: Sir Mark Prescott
Sir Mark Prescott has his string in fine form at present and Pallasator's second in the Goodwood Cup will have given him as much satisfaction as any of the 11 winners the trainer saddled in the month of July. He wasn't in the same league as Big Orange on the day, but the quirky seven-year-old has been a terrific servant to the stable in recent years and is sure to give a good account if attempting to defend his Doncaster Cup crown in September. Marsha and Red Box are other pattern winners to have emerged from the stable in the first half of 2016, while Cote D'Azur established himself as a useful performer when completing the hat-trick on his most recent outing at Bath and could head to Ayr in search of the four-timer on Monday. That is a stronger race than he has been contesting of late, but he looks a typical improver from this yard and remains one to keep onside in his current mood. That comment also applies to Cliff Face, who got off the mark on her stable debut at Lingfield and made the most of a gilt-edged opportunity when following up under a penalty at Brighton last Friday. She remains capable of better and is engaged at Wolverhampton on Monday, where she could be joined by Boost; a daughter of the yard's Cheveley Park winner, Hooray, and a fair third on her most recent outing at Kempton.
Jumps trainer: Johnny Farrelly
Johnny Farrelly officially took out his training licence at the beginning of the 2013/14 campaign, but he earned his spurs in the months before with Kevin Bishop and played a leading role in the achievements of Battle Group, who registered back-to-back victories over three days at Aintree's Grand National meeting. Farrelly was denied a first Graded winner in his own name when Amore Alato fell at the final fence of the Noel Novices' Chase at Ascot in December, but the 17 winners he saddled last season still represented a career-best tally and the trainer is already well on his way to surpassing that total this time round. Indeed, Ablazing and the fairly useful War Singer have been the stars of a fantastic start to the 2015/16 campaign for Farrelly and the former emulated Battle Group in recording a brace of victories over three days at Uttoxeter last month. He has a 6 lb hike in the weights to contend with in future, but can be expected to go well if bidding for the hat-trick at Worcester on Thursday. Meanwhile, Shouting Hill wasn't disgraced when fourth on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter last month and could outrun his odds if building on that at Newton Abbott on Wednesday, while Mr Lando was one of the trainer's four winners on the Flat in July and might be worth looking out for at Kempton on Wednesday evening.
Under the radar: Bernard Llewellyn
Bernard Llewellyn may only have 18 horses in training at his yard in the Welsh village of Fochriw, but the five winners he saddled on the Flat in 2015 still represented his worst tally for several years and has to be considered a disappointing return for a man that first took out his licence over 30 years ago. Llewellyn has been in this game long enough to know how quickly your luck can change, though, and the trainer has bounced back this season, with eight winners already on the board at this relatively early stage of proceedings. Four of those victories came in the month of July alone and Llewellyn will have been heartened to see the six-year-old Petrify belatedly get off the mark at Chepstow. He established himself as the star of that particular spell when following up back at that venue next time and the trainer looks set to be represented on Tuesday's card at his local track. Honour Promise has shown little in three starts for the yard and is best watched in the fillies' handicap, but Cosette has been thriving in recent weeks and wasn't beaten far at Ffos Las last time. She appears to be her trainer's best chance of a winner from limited entries in the next few days, but Llewellyn is sure to have other targets in mind for his small string and close attention should be paid to his movements in the coming weeks.
